Expectations are high for the auction of the bankrupt Caneco shipyard. The venture with approximately 150.000m² with buildings, sheds, workshops, dry dock, longitudinal career, lateral career and four piers, located in the port district of Caju, in Rio de Janeiro, will be auctioned with a minimum bid of R$ 192.360.000,00 ,15 on March 2022, XNUMX at noon, bringing with it the hope that the shipbuilding industry will return to the good times of job creation.

The Caneco shipyard auction was authorized by Judge Maria da Penha Nobre Mauro of the 5th Corporate Court of Rio de Janeiro. O public auctioneer Jonas Rymer is who will promote the auction online. The company that offers the highest amount will win the dispute.

Founded in 1886, the Caneco shipyard became one of the main ones in Brazil, being a reference in the generation of jobs, until it was declared bankrupt in 2006. Since then, the entire shipbuilding industry has been in decline.

Some properties in Caneco are still occupied by companies in the naval industry Intercan Terminais de Containeres e Logística and Rio Nave Serviços Navais LTDA.

At the height of the sector, the enterprise had the capacity to build ships of up to 2.500 tons. And the overhead crane reached the capacity to lift up to 5.000 tons.

Payment of creditors and labor liabilities are the priority for leasing the Caneco shipyard

The Justice of Rio de Janeiro established that the priority of the Caneco shipyard auction is to enable the payment of creditors, mainly labor liabilities.

“The occupations resulted from lease agreements, entered into at different times and under different circumstances, and they have already been, with their respective effects, duly considered and defined by the Court, in several precluded decisions, and today there is no pending aspect of solution, that is to say, there is no pendency capable of creating doubt as to the soundness of the disposal of the assets of Massa”.

Bidding for the Inhaúma shipyard is also the hope for the resumption of the Brazilian shipbuilding industry and job creation

is also open the tender for the Inhaúma shipyard, until then managed by Petrobras and which is also located in the port region of Rio de Janeiro.

The state-owned company believes that the Inhaúma shipyard has great potential for using the logistical bases of offshore companies. The area of this development corresponds to 321.612 m², with 6 berths for mooring large vessels, equipment storage areas, workshop and even 2 wharves and 2 dikes (one dry and one wet).

Proposals from companies interested in renting the Inhaúma shipyard must be submitted by March 4th. However, what is said is that Petrobras should extend this deadline.

The Inhaúma shipyard has been inactive since 2016, after cases of corruption scandals involving Petrobras that were revealed through the Lava Jato operation.

Therefore, with the Caneco and Inhaúma shipyards back in operation, it is certain that there will be a strong recovery of the Brazilian economy in several sectors, such as containers and the shipbuilding industry itself and fishing warehouse, which would generate direct jobs.
