The last details are still being finalized by the companies. The new project will help the Brazilian naval sector to develop even further, acquiring unprecedented knowledge in the country.

Furthermore, Ecovix is betting on a new board to steer the company and regain its participation in large ventures. The newest director, Luiz Fernando Pugliesi, will be responsible for the company’s business development.

The partnership between the companies is supported by the consulting firm VSK, for the construction of the Antarctic Support Ship – which will support the Brazilian base on the continent, reopened earlier this year after the fire that occurred in 2012.

The document confirming the partnership intentions between Ecovix and ASMAR will be delivered to the Brazilian Navy today (06/29).

For Ecovix, it will be an important step for the recovery of business. Since southern Chile is very close to the Antarctic continent, the Chileans have extensive knowledge of polar vessels.

Luiz Fernando is eager to bring all this expertise to the Ecovix shipyard, aiming to explore a new market in the naval industry in Brazil.

The executive also states that Ecovix intends to invest in other new businesses, “We have devised a plan aimed at considerable growth in our business portfolio, and we have much to explore. Our shipyard is very well-equipped. We have everything to build ships of any size, and I believe we also have space for repairs and maintenance. There is a market, and we are seeking opportunities. We will really focus on this new possibility of constructing the first polar vessel in Brazil. And this excites me a lot.”

The new Brazilian station in Antarctica, Comandante Ferraz, was reopened on January 15 of this year supported by Petrobras through the Brazilian Antarctic Program (Proantar) and operated by the Brazilian Navy, the facility is dedicated to scientific research in the areas of environment, meteorology, biodiversity, and chemistry, and is now a reality.

A new, more modern and efficient vessel is needed for this support throughout the year, regardless of the weather station.

In addition to Proantar, Petrobras supports the Sectoral Plan for Marine Resources (PSRM), which enables scientific research and human resource training in the Blue Amazon, encompassing the study and monitoring of natural resources, oceanographic and climatic phenomena in maritime areas, including the offshore environment where Petrobras operates.
