JBS Announces Million-Dollar Investment In Its Unit In Diamantino (MT). The Factory Will Receive Funding After Fire And Create Thousands Of New Jobs.
JBS announced last Saturday (17) a new investment aimed at tripling the production capacity of its Friboi unit in Diamantino, in the state of Mato Grosso. The investment amount will be R$ 800 million directed towards the recovery and modernization of the factory, where 1,400 jobs will be generated on-site, in addition to maintaining current positions.
JBS Emphasizes The Importance Of MT For Its Activities
The workforce at the unit will be doubled to 2,800 employees. It is important to highlight that JBS is currently responsible for generating more than 9,500 direct jobs in MT. Thus, the number will approach 11,000.
The investment announcement was made by Gilberto Xandó, CEO of JBS in Brazil, and also by Renato Costa, president of Friboi, during a meeting with local authorities and with Carlos Fávaro, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, during a visit to the unit, which is currently halted in production due to a fire that impacted part of the facilities on the 11th of this month.

The meeting also included the participation of Wesley and Joesley Batista, from the J&F group, holding company that controls JBS.
Joesley emphasizes that MT is a region of utmost importance for Friboi and JBS. This funding destined for the factory in Diamantino is a reflection of its commitment to continue supporting investment in the state. With this amount applied by JBS, this will be the largest Friboi unit in the country, generating thousands of jobs, Wesley adds.
The executive of the multinational giant expresses excitement about the prospect of expanding its presence in the municipality and hopes to further consolidate the livestock industry in MT, contributing to its economic development.
JBS Will Maintain Employment For Thousands Of Employees During Reconstruction Phase
Xandó and Costa, in addition to announcing the expansion investment in the unit in MT, also informed that JBS will maintain the jobs of approximately 1,400 employees from the unit during this period of reconstruction of the affected facilities.
The expectation is that the recovery and expansion works of the unit will be completed by the end of this year, allowing the resumption of operations on-site. Fávaro emphasizes that, by joining efforts, the goal is to turn this difficult moment into new opportunities for the state and for Brazil’s agribusiness.
The large-scale fire destroyed part of the JBS slaughterhouse on the night of Saturday, June 10. Firefighters from Nova Mutum, Cuiabá, Sinop, Tangará da Serra, and Lucas do Rio Verde worked until Sunday (11) to control the blaze. Before the arrival of the firefighters, the Military Police went to the site and found several employees trying to contain the flames with water hoses, but without success.
Other Investments From The Multinational JBS
In addition to announcing this investment, JBS also plans to inaugurate another feed factory in August.
The unit will be installed in Seberi, in the Rio Grande do Sul, with investments of approximately R$ 250 million and its production will be directed to pig farmers in 36 cities in the state. Construction began in 2021 and the project investments, which do not receive tax incentives, are coming from the multinational’s own funds.
The new feed plant occupies a total area of 63,000 square meters and is expected to generate up to 110 direct jobs, being considered strategic, as it can facilitate deliveries, encourage supplier loyalty, and reduce logistics costs.
In the operational area of the unit, the expectation is that the integrated producers of Seara, a branch of the JBS giant that operates in the area, will double their pig production by the end of the year.
