Minas Gerais Conquers Markets and Leads in Coffee, with US$ 12.8 Billion Exported, Even with Decline in Soybeans, Sugar, and Meats.
The exports of the agribusiness sector in Minas Gerais reached US$ 12.8 billion between January and August of this year. This value represents a growth of 13.5% compared to the same period of the previous year. Despite the increase in revenue, the shipped volume fell by 8.7% and totaled 11.6 million tons.
More than 590 agricultural products from Minas were sent to 174 countries.
China accounted for 26% of the purchases, the United States for 11%, Germany for 8%, and Italy and Japan for 5% each. These destinations confirm the global presence of Minas’ production and maintain the state as the third largest exporter in the sector.

Valuation and New Markets Drive Growth
According to the technical advisor of the Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock, and Supply (Seapa), Manoela Teixeira, the valuation of prices has driven revenue growth.
She highlighted that the sector also conquered new markets and expanded its presence in alternative routes, such as the Philippines, Mexico and Chile, reinforcing the adaptation in response to changes in access to traditional markets.
Coffee Maintains Absolute Leadership
Coffee remains the main product of Minas’ agribusiness, with US$ 6.88 billion exported during the period.
Revenue rose 52% compared to 2024, driven by price valuation, favorable exchange rates, and recognized quality. Minas Gerais accounted for about 70% of Brazil’s coffee exports.
Soybeans, Meats, and Sugar-Ethanol Sector Decline
The soybean complex recorded US$ 2.4 billion with 6 million tons shipped but saw declines of 18% in revenue and 10% in volume.
The sugar-ethanol sector totaled US$ 1.2 billion with 3 million tons, decreasing by 18.3%.
Meats generated US$ 1.2 billion with 324 thousand tons, supported by Chinese demand and new shipments to the Middle East.
Forest products (pulp, wood, and paper) reached approximately US$ 653 million.
The exported volume stood at 1 million tons, consolidating this sector as an important part of Minas Gerais’ export agenda.
