Construtora São José and the real estate fund FRAM Capital bought the Ford land shortly after its closure, when the automaker continued to use the site only for administrative work. The buyers invested R$ 1.2 billion.
At the site, the current owner will implement a logistics center. Mauro Silvestri, co-founder of the construction company, stated that between 4,000 and 4,500 jobs will be generated when the complex is operational. The Ford factory employed around 2,800 people, compared the businessman.

The largest tunnel module factory in the world was built from scratch on a beach in Denmark to produce 89 concrete blocks and will be demolished after the project: each structure weighs up to 10 times the Eiffel Tower and will be installed on the bottom of the Baltic Sea with an accuracy of 12 millimeters in a tunnel that will halve the travel time between Hamburg and Copenhagen.
The Ford industrial complex located in ABC Paulista was the first that the multinational deactivated. Two more factories of the company remained in Brazil, one in Taubaté (SP) and another in Camaçari (BA). Both closed in January when Ford left the country.
The company operated in São Bernardo do Campo for 52 years. Of the 2,350 employees who were employed at Ford, only 1,000, all from the administrative area, were retained.
Regarding the reasons for the closure, the company cited the advancement of the Covid-19 pandemic, which contributed to the “idle capacity of the industry” and to the “decline in sales, resulting in years of significant losses.”
The moment part of the facade was removed was captured by the site Primeira Marcha. According to the publication, in the coming days, the company’s symbol in totem form will also be removed. The removal of any reference to Ford came from the automaker itself, before the demolition and restructuring of the property by the new owners began.
Ford Factory Had a Lot of History
With the demolition of the former unit in São Bernardo do Campo, a part of the history of the Brazilian automotive industry will also come down. The factory was one of the oldest in the country: it began operating in 1954 under the management of Willys Overland. In 1967, Ford purchased the operations of the company, including the industrial complex.
In recent years, the ABC Paulista plant produced trucks and the Fiesta line: all these products have been discontinued. It’s worth noting that currently, with the closure of Brazilian factories, the Ford lineup consists solely of imported vehicles.
