Graphene Factory, Airport and Port Became Targets for the Chinese
The city of Caxias do Sul caught attention for its business and technological position in Rio Grande do Sul. Therefore, it is expected to be the first Brazilian city to host the BraCham office. The headquarters will be at the Science, Technology and Innovation Park of UCS, near the university’s graphene factory, TecnoUCS, with the approval of the Chinese government.
The intention to invest in these projects was formalized by the Director of Innovation and Technology in Industry and Commerce of the entity, engineer Lourdes Cristina D. Printes, during an event held in Gramado last Friday (18). The meeting brought together mayors, leaders of commercial associations, and representatives of importing and exporting companies from Rio Grande do Sul.

Interests of the Chinese
The visit to the graphene factory of UCS was not on the agenda, but it generated the most interest. The intention is to establish the Brazilian headquarters at TecnoUCS. The representatives of UCS, Diego Piazza and Sergio Bortolatto, were responsible for presenting to the BraCham members the UCSGraphene, which has been operating since March 14 with a production capacity of up to 500 kg/year.
Evaldo Kuiava, rector of UCS, says that the Chinese were interested, given that the graphene factory is very advanced in industrial-scale production and in applying the product alongside the business sector.
The UCS graphene factory allows for an increase in productivity of up to 5,000 kg/year, enabling UCSGraphene to provide services to national and international markets in various sectors. Applications range from electronics, coatings and metals, to regenerative medicine. Some examples of these uses were presented to the visitors, along with a visit to the production facility, which currently has an installed production capacity of 500 kg/year.
