Graphene factory, airport and port became target of the Chinese
The city of Caxias do Sul drew attention due to its business and technological position in Rio Grande do Sul. Therefore, it must be the first Brazilian city to host the BraCham office. The headquarters should be in the UCS Science, Technology and Innovation Park, close to the University's graphene factory, TecnoUCS with the endorsement of the Chinese government.
The intention to invest in these projects was made official by the entity's Director of Innovation and Technology in Industry and Commerce, engineer Lourdes Cristina D. Printes, during an event held in Gramado last Friday (18). The meeting brought together mayors, leaders of trade associations and representatives of import and export companies in Rio Grande do Sul.

Chinese interests
The visit to the graphene factory of UCS was not on the agenda, but it was the one that generated the most interest. The intention is to install the Brazilian headquarters at TecnoUCS. UCS representatives, Diego Piazza and Sergio Bortolatto, were responsible for introducing BraCham members to UCSGraphene, which has been operating since March 14 with a production capacity of up to 500 kg/year.
Evaldo Kuiava, dean of UCS, says that the Chinese were interested, considering that the graphene factory is very advanced in production on an industrial scale and in the application of the product together with the business sector.
The UCS graphene plant allows the expansion of productivity to up to 5 kg/year, enabling UCSGraphene to provide services to the national and international markets in several sectors. Applications range from electronics, coatings and metals, to regenerative medicine. Some examples of these uses were presented to visitors, as well as a visit to the manufacturing plant, which currently has an installed production capacity of 500 kg/year.

The company's announcement came on April 15, highlighting that Gerdau Graphene, the name given to the new company, is also focused on becoming a reference in the commercialization of ore.
The factory, called Gerdau Graphene, will operate independently from the steel business unit, and aims to become a reference company in the large-scale application of graphene in Brazil and in the commercialization of products derived from the ore. The company is still committed to entering the global market.
