The Crisis In Argentina Would Be The Main Reason For The Transfer Of Diesel Engine Manufacturing From MWM From Argentina To Brazil
MWM, recognized for its diesel engines, will close its factory in Córdoba, Argentina and transfer all production to Brazil, more precisely to the Jurubatuba region, south zone of São Paulo, the company stated last week.
The reason for the company’s decision is the severe economic crisis that Argentina is facing, which has had devastating consequences in the automotive segment. Also See, Klabin Buys Heineken Factory!
Argentina has been experiencing a decline in vehicle sales and consequently the closure of many jobs, and MWM’s decision will affect one of the three units operating in the country, resulting in the layoff of 100 employees.

The Company
MWM arrived in Brazil in 1953, controlled by the German Motoren Werke Mannheim, founded in 1922, and in 1985, MWM Motores Diesel Ltda was acquired by Deutz AG, which sold its control to Navistar International in 2005.
In the country, MWM produced diesel engines for Ford, GM, and Mercedes-Benz, but in 2001 the crisis caused the company to halt production and start manufacturing parts for supplies of the lines that remained in Brazil.
With the shift in shareholding control to Navistar International in 2013, the company began producing generators and electric motors.
The planning of the diesel engine and components manufacturer is to expand the activities of the São Paulo factory to now centralize its production in the country.

The company stated that the commercial viability of its operations in Argentina was the main reason for the shift of activities to Brazil.
