Free Course at USP Leste Offers Training in Children’s Literature and Storytelling, with Certificate, Limited Spots and Selection by Electronic Lottery, Aimed at Educators Interested in Pedagogical Strategies for the Socioemotional Development of Young Children.

The School of Arts, Sciences, and Humanities at the University of São Paulo (EACH-USP), known as USP Leste, has opened registrations for the dissemination course “Children’s Literature and Storytelling: Socioemotional Development Strategies for Children Aged 4 and 5”.

The activity is free, offers a certificate, and has an intensive edition scheduled for January 28, 2026, on the campus of the unit, located in the eastern zone of the city of São Paulo.

Although the course takes place in person, the entire registration process is conducted online.

Spaces are limited, and the selection of participants does not follow the order of registration.

All registrations made within the established deadline will be considered and submitted to an electronic lottery, according to the rules announced by the university.

Children’s Literature Applied to Early Childhood Education

The course focuses on the use of children’s literature and storytelling as pedagogical tools when working with children aged 4 and 5 years.

The proposal is to present strategies for educators to use narratives and characters as support in addressing emotions present in the school environment, such as joy, sadness, fear, and anger.

According to the course description, the activity is based on the understanding that stories can serve as mediators in the process of listening and dialogue with children.

In this sense, the course aims to discuss practices that favor the identification and expression of feelings, integrating reading into the socioemotional development in Early Childhood Education.

Expected Methodologies and Practical Activities

The course programming includes participatory methodologies, with the realization of discussion groups and practical workshops.

Activities involving body expression, use of puppets, and analysis of case studies related to the school environment are also planned.

According to information provided by EACH-USP, these dynamics aim to stimulate the exchange of experiences among participants and reflection on situations experienced in daily classroom life.

The methodological proposal prioritizes the practical application of the contents discussed during the meeting.

When and Where the Course Will Be Held

The announced edition of the course will take place on January 28, 2026, in an intensive format.

The meeting will be held in person at the USP Leste campus, located in the neighborhood of Ermelino Matarazzo, in the city of São Paulo.

The activity is part of the programming of dissemination courses from the University of São Paulo, offered through the Apolo System, an institutional platform used for managing extension actions and complementary training.

Who Can Register and How the Certificate Works

There are 60 spots available for this edition of the course.

The target audience includes educators in general and individuals interested in the subject, with no requirement for complete higher education as a prerequisite for registration.

To obtain the certificate, the university establishes a criterion of minimum attendance of 75% for the activity.

Since the course takes place in a single day, this requirement is related to participation throughout most of the scheduled program.

Registrations, Deadlines, and Electronic Lottery

Registrations can be made until 11:59 PM on January 16, 2026.

To participate in the selection process, interested parties must access the USP Apolo System, locate the dissemination course “Children’s Literature and Storytelling: Socioemotional Development Strategies for Children Aged 4 and 5”, and complete the registration within the stipulated deadline.

With the selection conducted by lottery, applications submitted by the deadline have the same chances of participation, making registration an essential step for those who wish to follow the results and possible calling.
