Country Is A Reference In Clean Transition And Digitalization

Finland has been actively working on developing solutions to combat climate change in a sustainable manner. The country’s goal is to achieve carbon neutrality by 2035 and, consequently, reduce the impact on the global carbon footprint through clean technologies and digital solutions. More than 90% of Finnish electricity is CO2 free and production is growing rapidly. This provides a solid foundation for growing industries in the battery value chain, hydrogen/eFuels, and industries aimed at decarbonization. Furthermore, Finland provides companies access to the European market with excellent working conditions.

The happiest country in the world is a reference when it comes to clean transition and digitalization. Finland has been recognized as a global leader in sustainability for the third consecutive year, according to the UN ranking. Currently, Finland also holds the top spot in Europe in the development of the lithium-ion battery value chain, according to a study released by Bloomberg.

Sustainable 5G

As one of the global leaders in the development and implementation of 5G technology, the country also plays a key role in promoting sustainability through fifth-generation connectivity, which also brings energy efficiency and enables the connectivity of IoT (Internet of Things) devices to monitor and optimize the use of resources such as energy and water.

It is also with the help of 5G that several Finnish cities are developing smart city solutions using ICT to optimize resource usage, improve urban mobility, and reduce carbon emissions. These initiatives reflect Finland’s commitment to addressing environmental and climate challenges through technological innovation and gives a prominent place to the Finnish economy worldwide, impacting the quality of life provided in the country.

Maritime Sector

The shipyards in Finland where ships are built also combine sustainable and digital solutions to facilitate the transition to eco-friendly maritime transport. The country has a strong ecosystem for advanced maritime and port technologies and services. Leading companies in the sector, for example, offer solutions for port automation, ship traffic management, just-in-time port call algorithms, cargo handling, ship design, propulsion systems, automation and monitoring of ships, remote control systems for navigation, ship routing optimization, and much more. Finland also promotes ambitious offshore wind energy projects and companies that offer solutions for the construction and maintenance of wind farms.

New Opportunities

“Finland has a mission of clean and digital transformation. Companies are offering attractive career opportunities to people who want to make a difference and contribute to building a better world,” says Laura Lindeman, Director of Work in Finland – Finland Business Unit. With this development, companies in Finland invite tech talents to explore career opportunities in the country. For companies, versatility and cultural differences enrich the work community. Many Finnish companies anticipate growth in the green economy and see that significant investments in the green transition pay off.

“Working in Finland offers the opportunity to work and develop skills with the latest technologies, knowledge, and specialists and drive sustainable growth. In addition to innovative career and development opportunities, Finland also offers a high quality of life in a safe and stable country,” highlights Alessandra Leone, Talent Manager at Work in Finland, which is part of Business Finland, an organization to finance innovation and promote trade, travel, and investments.

According to the Technology Industries of Finland, 60% of workers have a university degree and 40% are skilled workers – showing that the country is looking for specialists. The ICT sector, for example, is one of the most significant in the country, with revenues of 32 billion euros.

“Finland has a significant social welfare status, and Finnish society has certain pillars that make everyday life very good. The healthy balance between work and leisure in Finland also offers many opportunities to enjoy the country’s unique and pure nature. In 2023, Finland was elected the happiest country in the world for the 6th consecutive year,” concludes Alessandra Leone.
