Focus Energia plans IPO to create up to 3 GW of new solar projects in Brazil

Brazilian energy company Focus Energia intends to launch an initial public offering (IPO) that will support the construction of more than 3 GW of solar projects at its Futura Complex.  

According to Focus Energia, the growth of solar energy in Brazil in numbers of new distributed generation systems jumped from 7 in 2012 to 110.299 thousand in 2029. We reached the mark of 15.600 workers in 2018 in the sector and the accumulated investments in the country exceed R$ 5,2 billion from 2012 to 2029.

Future solar energy project  

According to the company's previous project, the Futura solar project comprises 45 parks divided between Futura 1, Futura 2 and Futura 3/Apia. All these solar energy projects together will have an energy capacity of 1.000 average megawatts (MWa) of solar energy.

Focus Energia will also be able to use what is left over from energy projects beyond Futura to create parallel projects that benefit the Brazilian population.

Focus Energia is planning a primary offering, the proceeds of which will be used for the acquisition and development of its renewable energy projects, and a secondary offering, in which the company's shareholders will sell shares.  

Morgan Stanley is the lead coordinator of the IPO. The local units of the Spanish Banco Santander SA and the American bank Citigroup Inc are also coordinating the offer.
