Known as the Most Sustainable Football Team in the World, Forest Green Rovers FC Announced the Construction of the First Stadium Made Entirely of Wood
Forest Green Rovers FC, recognized as the world’s most eco-friendly football club, has received the green light for a revolutionary project. Based in Gloucestershire, the fifth-division English team will build the first stadium in the UK made almost entirely of certified laminated wood.
This will be the world’s first “climate-positive” stadium, offsetting more carbon emissions than it generates.

Dale Vince, the club’s owner and founder of the renewable energy company Ecotricity, emphasized the project’s importance. “People think construction always harms the environment, but that doesn’t have to be true,” he said. The project combines nature preservation with technological advances, demonstrating that it’s possible to build sustainably without compromising the future.
Besides the stadium, Eco Park will include recreational areas, commercial spaces, and new infrastructure to serve both fans and the local community.

The choice of laminated wood goes beyond aesthetics. This material, known for its durability and safety, is widely recognized as a sustainable alternative in construction.
By opting for wood, the project reduces embodied carbon, meaning the emissions generated during the production and transportation of materials. Structural walls, cladding, steps, and slabs of the stadium will be made entirely of certified wood, marking a significant advancement in sustainable architecture.
Zaha Hadid Architects states that this project redefines how large sporting facilities can be built ecologically and efficiently.

The stadium’s strategic location near the A419 and M5 motorways facilitates access for fans and resolves long-standing logistical issues, such as limited parking. This is expected to boost the club’s growth and attract new fans, as well as bringing Forest Green Rovers closer to the dream of rising to the English Football League.
With the new stadium, the club also aims to inspire other organizations to rethink their practices. The project combines architectural innovation, sustainability, and social benefits.

Existe um motivo para mega construções utilizarem muito concreto e aço e não apenas madeira em suas estruturas fundamentais… Mas isso é conversa para outro dia, hoje vamos achar legal a ideia de construir um estádio que vai durar bem menos, será menos resistente (e sim, deverá caber muito menos torcedores para ser o” mais seguro possível “) e terá um custo bem maior de manutenção ao longo do tempo.
