Course Aims to Integrate Health and Education
The course is the result of a collaboration between the Ministry of Health, through the Secretariats of Work Management and Education in Health (SGTES) and Primary Health Care (SAPS), the Open University of the Unified Health System (UNA-SUS), and Fiocruz Brasília.
The initiative is part of the federal government’s ongoing efforts to integrate health and education as complementary public policies, strengthening the Health in School Program (PSE), created in 2007.
Diversified Target Audience
Primarily aimed at professionals directly involved with the PSE, the course offers a broad and practical approach to fundamental themes for promoting health among children and adolescents.
The target audience includes community health agents, nurses, nursing technicians, dentists, oral health assistants, primary care physicians, psychologists, social workers, teachers, educators, pedagogical coordinators, and other education professionals, as well as representatives of the school community involved in PSE actions.
Comprehensive and Evidence-Based Content
With a total workload of 30 hours, the course is self-instructional and can be completed at the student’s own pace.
The content is divided into thematic modules covering crucial areas of public health in the school context, including food and nutrition, primary care and family health, health education, public policies and health planning, health promotion, environmental health, oral health, child health, health of the black population, adolescent and youth health, mental health, sexual and reproductive health, culture of peace and human rights, vaccination, ocular and auditory health, as well as physical activities and healthy lifestyle.
Each module is constructed based on updated scientific evidence and seeks to promote critical reflection on the role of health education in Brazilian public schools.
Strengthening the Health in School Program
The Health in School Program is an intersectoral policy aimed at strengthening prevention, promotion, and health care actions in the school environment, especially in public basic education schools.
According to the Ministry of Health, in 2024, the PSE reached over 23 million students, in partnership with nearly 100 thousand family health teams spread across the country.
The course launched in April 2025 reinforces this commitment by offering continued and free training to those who make a difference at the point of care.
Digital Education as a Tool for Transformation
In addition to the pedagogical proposal, the course reaffirms the Unified Health System’s (SUS) commitment to distance education as a democratic and accessible means of training.
The UNA-SUS platform has become one of the main tools for the continued training of health professionals in the country, with over 1 million registered students by 2025.
With facilitated and flexible access, the EAD modality allows professionals from remote regions to participate in the training, expanding the reach of the public policy and reducing regional inequalities in access to knowledge.
Enrollments Open Until July
Enrollment opened on April 8, 2025, and will continue until July 14, 2025, or until all spots are filled.
Interested individuals must register through the UNA-SUS portal, via the link: https://www.unasus.gov.br/cursos/oferta/420111.
The spots are limited and filled on a first-come, first-served basis, so it is recommended to enroll as soon as possible.
After enrollment, participants will have until August 15, 2025, to complete all activities.
At the end of the course, those who pass will receive a free certificate, issued digitally by UNA-SUS.
