Gasoline, Ethanol And Cooking Gas At ‘Banana Prices’
The time when using the expression ‘at banana prices’ meant that something was cheap is gone, but without a doubt, Brazilian consumers did not imagine they would fuel their vehicles, paying per liter basically the same price they would buy for 8 to 12 bananas, which are currently costing between R$ 6.00 and R$ 8.00 in the market.

The President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, has tried to dissociate the Federal Government’s responsibility regarding the high fuel prices, pointing fingers at the States, claiming that state governors are to blame for the ongoing increase in fuel prices.
Federal Government Outlines Strategies To Combat Fuel Price Increases
Last Friday (3), Jair Bolsonaro decided to file a lawsuit with the Federal Supreme Court (STF) to force governors to establish a fixed nominal value for the Tax on Circulation of Goods and Services, the ICMS, which impacts fuel prices in the country.
Specialist José Antônio states that it is necessary for consumers to understand that the frequent fuel price increases have nothing to do with changes in the ICMS rate, as it is fixed and hasn’t changed in many years.
Any price changes made in fuels and cooking gas are carried out by Petrobras, with authorization from the Federal Government. It is noted that just this year, gasoline prices have increased by over 50% at refineries and about 32% at the pumps, as well as cooking gas, which is currently costing R$ 3.40 per kilogram, a 5.9% increase.
Cooking Gas Over R$ 100.00
In the North-Northeast region, cooking gas has shown a vast price increase, ranging between R$ 90 and R$ 100. In some cities in other regions of the country, consumers need to spend around R$ 113 to get a full gas canister at home. Many families from poorer classes or regions have turned to charcoal and firewood for cooking at home.
