The government of Santa Catarina declared a state of emergency last Tuesday (17) due to the state registering 14 confirmed cases of COVID-19, as well as over 200 suspected cases. Check below how the new measure will influence the naval hub in the region.

Harbor Master’s Office in Itajaí
As a preventive measure against the coronavirus, the Harbor Master’s Office in Itajaí has suspended all Maritime Professional Education Courses for this year and temporarily halted public service.
There will also be no assessments for obtaining the licenses of Amateur Navigator, Master, and Jet Ski Operator. A new schedule will be launched with the new dates for each course and exams when the pandemic normalizes.
Cruise Ships
The municipal government of Balneário Camboriú prevented passengers of the Costa Fascinosa from disembarking at the Barra Sul dock last Sunday (15). Yesterday (17), the MSC Seaview was also prevented from docking in the region.
Ferry-Boat
The ferry service between Navegantes and Itajaí will also be suspended for seven days due to the state decree. The last crossing is scheduled for today (18) at 9:00 PM. During this period, a ferry will be available to attend only emergency situations.
Together for the River
Due to 1,000 people willing to participate in the cleanup event at the mouth of the Itajaí River next Saturday (21), the event has been canceled for the safety of the volunteers’ health. A new date will be announced soon.
Port of Itajaí
Activities at the Port of Itajaí continue normally. Representatives of companies involved in port activities, entities, and ANVISA have been meeting frequently to formulate and update the containment plan for the coronavirus.
To avoid the circulation of people in the administrative part of the Port of Itajaí, an official note was issued yesterday (17) stating that all external protocols will be received digitally, which should be sent to the email: protocolo@portoitajai.com.br.
