US$ 15 Million Investment Leads Morerson and PKC Group to Open an Electric Cable Factory in Paraguay, Boosting the Automotive Industry and Leveraging the Maquila Regime to Target All of South America.

The government of Paraguay announced a new and important investment for the country’s automotive industry, with the potential to mark a turning point in the national economic history. Representatives from the Morerson Group, one of the largest automotive component companies in the world, were in Buruvicharoga for a meeting with President Santiago Penha, where the installation of a new industrial plant in Paraguay was officially announced, with an initial investment of US$ 15 million in the production of automotive electric cables and an expectation of generating over 2,000 direct jobs under the maquila regime.

But this news goes far beyond the numbers. The investment places Paraguay on a new level in the industrial map of South America, bringing the country closer to the main global automotive supply chains and reinforcing its strategy to become a competitive platform for industrial exports, especially towards markets like Brazil and Argentina.

Who is Morerson and Why Did Paraguay Make the Radar

The San Vardana Morerson Group is an Indian multinational with a global presence in the automotive sector, recognized as one of the largest suppliers of components in the world.

Its history began in 1975 as a small electrical wire company in Delhi, India, that quickly started producing more sophisticated industrial components.

Since then, Morerson has grown worldwide through acquisitions and strategic partnerships, expanding its operations to more than 40 countries, with hundreds of factories and tens of thousands of employees.

Today, the group is present in the leading global automotive supply chains and offers a complete portfolio of products, ranging from electrical and electronic systems to modules, mirrors, plastic components, and much more.

The plant that will be installed in Paraguay will be operated by PKC Group, a company specializing in electrical distribution systems and cables for vehicles and machinery, which has been part of the Morerson group since 2017.

PKC originated in 1969 in Finland and became part of the Morerson Wing Hernest Division following a major global acquisition, assuming a central role in the development of complex electrical systems for the automotive industry.

What the New Factory Will Produce in Paraguay

The operation in Paraguay will focus on electrical distribution systems and cables for vehicles, the so-called wiring harnesses, which are essential for the electrical supply of cars, for data transmission between sensors and onboard computers, and for integration with automotive safety and connectivity technologies.

These systems are essential components in modern cars, especially in hybrid and electric vehicles that require high reliability, precision, and embedded technology.

By producing this type of component in Paraguay, Morerson and PKC bring high-level engineering closer to the main consumer markets in the region, reducing logistical costs and response times.

In practice, the new factory positions Paraguay as a relevant node in the global automotive component chain, not just as an exporter of basic products, but as a supplier of applied industrial technology.

Why Paraguay is Strategic for the Automotive Giant

The US$ 15 million investment in Paraguay is not an isolated decision but part of a global strategy by Morerson to bring its production closer to key markets in the Americas, with a special focus on Brazil and Argentina, in addition to diversifying its industrial presence outside traditional centers like Europe, the United States, and Asia.

Paraguay offers a set of competitive advantages that explain this choice:

  • Maquila regime, which reduces costs and encourages exports
  • Competitive workforce
  • Strategic location in the tri-border area and Mercosur
  • Integrated logistics with major automotive markets in the region

For Morerson, establishing an industrial operation in Paraguay means reducing logistical costs, bringing production closer to end customers, accessing regional trade agreements, and participating in an increasingly integrated production chain in the Southern Cone. For the country, it means transforming these advantages into jobs, technology transfer, and greater relevance in the industrial scenario.

Jobs, Qualification, and Multiplicative Effect on the Paraguayan Economy

The 2,000 expected direct jobs are just the beginning. The arrival of a globally present company like Morerson in Paraguay tends to trigger a multiplicative effect on the local economy.

Among the expected impacts are:

  • Specialized technical training for the local workforce
  • Integration with Paraguayan suppliers and small businesses
  • Training in cutting-edge automotive technologies
  • Increase in industrial exports
  • Strengthening the image of Paraguay as a global production hub

In addition to the direct job generation, the new Morerson PKC factory can stimulate networks of services, transportation, maintenance, logistics, and training, creating a more robust industrial ecosystem around the initial investment.

Paraguay on a New Industrial Map of South America

This announcement is not just a one-time economic news event. It is a strategic milestone for Paraguay, which until recently was mostly seen as a country of commodities, agriculture, and cheap energy.

By receiving a plant from a global automotive group, the country sends a clear message to the international market: it is ready to compete as a competitive industrial platform in Latin America.

The new Morerson PKC factory represents not only the production of cables but also global industrial technology, qualified jobs, and greater regional competitiveness.

Paraguay is beginning to align itself with a more sophisticated economic model, more connected and integrated into global production chains, with direct repercussions for all of South America.

For investors, entrepreneurs, and professionals in the field, the movement indicates that the country may cease to be seen merely as a cost alternative and be viewed as a real opportunity to participate in global value chains, especially in the automotive sector.

And you, do you think that this investment by Morerson and PKC in Paraguay is the first step towards transforming the country into a new industrial hub in South America?
