A New Low-Cost Electric Car Developed In Partnership With GM Is Coming To The Chinese Market.
Very popular in the Chinese market, the Mini EV, developed by Wuling, has already surpassed the Tesla Model Y in terms of sales in the Asian country. However, now the compact car, manufactured in partnership with GM, has received an even more attractive design with the launch of its convertible version. The low-cost electric car lost its two rear seats but gained a stylish roof that is completely stored at the back of the vehicle.
Meet the Updated Model of GM’s Low-Cost Electric Car
The design of GM’s electric car is basically the same as its standard predecessor, but it has gained some more modern design details, such as the closed grille and the light strip that connects the C-shaped DRLs.
Overall, the model is based on the Game Boy version, which focuses on sportiness, but without the side skirts and with a smaller, more stylish front bumper. The interior of GM’s vehicle also comes from the sporty version and features a more modern and luxurious style for the compact, compared to the standard Mini EV.

With a mild hybrid system of 48 V, 176 hp and a price of R$ 175,990 in the Sahara version, the new Jeep Renegade changes mostly on the inside, improves slightly in fuel consumption, and remains almost the same car.
The trim of the low-cost electric car will be sold in two colors: white and red, while the body will be available in Modern Black, Sea Blue, and Emerald. The roof will be standard in black, and red will be available as an option.
Due to its simplicity, the convertible is not equipped with a multimedia center. The dashboard only features a small display for the instrument panel, air conditioning controls, and a radio. The brake is not electric, as in almost all electric cars, and the lever is located in the center console, just behind the circular gear selector.
GM’s Electric Vehicle Will Cost R$ 60 Thousand
The mechanics of the low-cost electric car have been modernized, making the Mini EV Cabrio considerably more powerful. It has the same 41 horsepower and 11.21 kgfm as the Game Boy, but its 26.5 kWh battery ensures a range of 280 km, 20 km less than its sporty sibling.
Its maximum speed can reach 100 km/h, equal to its predecessor. The Mini EV Cabrio, in partnership with MG, will hit the Chinese market on the 9th of next month. The manufacturing company has not yet disclosed its final price, but local media estimate that the electric car will cost around 10,000 yuan more than the standard version, equivalent to 78,800 yuan. In direct conversion, this value may reach nearly R$ 60 thousand.
Interested Parties Must Participate in a Raffle, with Winners Announced at the End of September
According to Wuling Motors’ branding and marketing head, Zhang Yiqin, those interested in having a chance to drive a Cabrio produced in partnership with GM must participate in a raffle, with winners announced at the end of this month.
The reason for this strategy is the limited production, between 100 and 200 cars per month, although there is the possibility of expansion based on demand, according to the head.
First presented at the Shanghai Auto Show last year, the vehicle was developed with a focus on loyal customers of the Hongguang microcar, considering that some of them customized their vehicles and requested a convertible model.
