According to Tarkett, the iD Click Ultimate uses a rigid core made of composite material and a locking system that allows it to be placed directly over tiles and various existing floors, provided the base meets the technical conditions specified by the manufacturer. The line also includes an acoustic layer that can reduce impact noise by up to 19 dB and offers versions designed to withstand water exposure.
One of the strong points reported by the manufacturer appeared in the documentation of the original generation of the product: 1,076 square feet installed in eight hours by a single person, with no glue and no drying time required. The iD Click Ultimate line was originally launched in 2018, so this benchmark should not be interpreted as a technology or material created only in 2026.
However, the system has evolved and is still marketed in current versions featuring the new GenClick mechanism, a RCC+ core, surface protection, and acoustic resistance of up to 19 dB.

Rigid flooring allows renovations without removing all the old tiles
The difference starts with the installation logic itself. Traditional glued vinyl floors typically depend on a very even surface, as bumps, deep joints, and irregularities can later show through the covering or compromise adhesion.
The iD Click Ultimate belongs to the category of rigid modular vinyl floors, marketed as rigid core LVT.
The more stable core allows the planks or tiles to create a floating floor, connected by side locks instead of being glued individually to the subfloor.
Tarkett reports that the product can be placed directly over tiles and various other existing substrates.
This helps eliminate one of the most destructive phases of renovation: removing all previous covering just to install another in the same place.
Old tiles need to meet conditions to receive the new flooring
The possibility of direct installation comes with technical conditions. In the documentation of the generation that established the benchmark of 1,076 square feet in eight hours, Tarkett specified installation over tiles with joints of up to 0.31 inches wide and 0.12 inches deep.
If there are loose pieces, significant height differences, holes, or irregularities beyond the allowed limits, preparation remains necessary.
Thus, the technology reduces the destruction when it encounters a suitable existing floor, but does not eliminate the obligation to correct a defective base.
This difference is especially important in residential and commercial renovations. Removing tiles generates noise, dust, labor costs, and waste that then needs to be transported for proper disposal.
When the old flooring can remain in place, many of these steps disappear or are significantly reduced.
Therefore, the gain is not just in the speed at which the new planks are fitted. It also lies in the work that no longer needs to be done prior to installation.
One person can install 100 m² in eight hours according to Tarkett’s benchmark
The original commercial sheet of iD Click Ultimate presents an unusual figure for flooring renovation: 100 square meters in eight hours with one person.
The productivity was linked to the old i4F locking system and the ability to install the covering without adhesive, drying, and, in certain situations, without heavy substrate preparation.
One hundred square meters correspond to approximately the interior area of many homes and apartments. Theoretically, the benchmark represents an average of 12.5 m² per hour over an eight-hour workday.
However, real productivity varies according to room geometry, the number of cuts, doors, columns, furniture, the condition of the existing floor, and the installer’s experience.
The current generation has changed part of the locking technology. Tarkett now reports that the Click Ultimate can be installed up to 30% faster than glued alternatives, maintaining as its main advantages the absence of glue and immediate availability of the floor for use.
Connection System Eliminates Adhesive and Drying Time
In glued flooring, the schedule does not end when the last plank is installed. It is necessary to consider base preparation, proper adhesive application, and the recommended waiting periods before fully opening the environment.
iD Click Ultimate works differently. The pieces are mechanically connected to each other, forming a floating surface.
In the current generation, this connection is achieved through the GenClick system, designed to keep the pieces tightly joined while enhancing the sealing between them.
The practical consequence is simple: after installation is complete, there is no adhesive waiting to dry. The manufacturer describes the flooring as ready for immediate use.
This detail is particularly significant in hotels, restaurants, offices, and retail spaces, sectors for which the professional line was designed.
Every day that an environment remains closed for renovation means a loss of availability or revenue.
Rigid Core Aims to Combine Vinyl Behavior with Hard Flooring Stability
The core of the technology is referred to by Tarkett as Rigid Composite Core, or RCC. In the current generation, the RCC+ evolution employs a three-layer co-extrusion construction to enhance dimensional stability and load resistance.
It is this rigidity that differentiates the product from traditional flexible vinyls. Although the pieces are still part of the vinyl flooring family, they have sufficient structure to better distribute small irregularities in the substrate and resist deformation.
The current professional version also uses TEKTANIUM surface protection, developed for resistance to stains, scratches, and signs of heavy usage.
Some commercial configurations of the line can withstand static or dynamic loads of up to 800 kg, while versions with different wear layers have lower limits.
Acoustic Layer Reduces Impact Noise by Up to 19 dB
Another element is hidden on the bottom of the pieces. The Soundblock technology serves as an integrated acoustic layer and provides a reduction of up to 19 dB in impact noise, a result also documented in the technical specifications of the line according to acoustic testing criteria.
The goal is to minimize the propagation of sound caused by footsteps, shoe jumps, moving objects, and other impacts on the flooring.
This incorporated layer also eliminates, for the configurations recommended by the manufacturer, the need to add an independent acoustic mat solely to achieve the performance associated with the system.
The 19 dB does not mean that all sounds in a residence will drop exactly 19 dB. The indicator is related to the acoustic impact performance of the system, and the perceived result in a building also depends on the slab, walls, lateral transmissions, and other construction components.
Water resistance enables use even in kitchens and bathrooms
Water is another point used by Tarkett to differentiate the product. The original generation was marketed as waterproof when installed according to technical recommendations.
In the current versions, the combination of the RCC+ water-resistant core with GenClick produces a set described as watertight, capable of remaining for more than five days under water testing without leakage, according to the manufacturer.
This expands the application possibilities for kitchens, entries, and certain bathrooms.
Floor can cover large areas without intermediate joints under certain conditions
The stability of the rigid core brought another interesting feature for larger spaces. Tarkett’s technical documentation states that certain installations can achieve 400 m² in environments of up to approximately 20 by 20 meters, without intermediate expansion profiles, provided that the specified perimeter gaps are respected.
This possibility reduces visible transition lines in large commercial spaces.
The manual, however, requires an expansion gap around the perimeter and fixed elements. In the consulted documentation, the basic reference is at least 6 mm, which can increase according to dimensions and thermal conditions.
The flooring should also not be permanently secured to the substrate, as it needs to maintain the movement characteristic of a floating system.
Rigid flooring shows how renovation can replace demolition with overlay
The most visible transformation is not necessarily in the final appearance. Once installed, iD Click Ultimate can replicate wood, stone, or concrete, looking just like another contemporary covering.
The difference becomes evident in what may not need to happen before that.
When the existing tiles are within the specified tolerances, it is not necessary to break dozens of square meters, remove bags of debris, and completely rebuild the base just to install another finish. The old flooring can serve as a substrate for the new one.
The manufacturer documented an installation of 100 m² in eight hours by one person, while the current versions maintain glue-free assembly, immediate use, acoustic reduction of up to 19 dB, and a system developed to withstand contact with water.
