The Chinese Government Invested US$ 245 Million in the Construction of the Largest Highway in Afghanistan, a Project That Promises to Transform the Economy and the Lives of People in the Country.

China is financing the construction of the largest highway in Afghanistan, known as the Yakalang-Daruf Highway. This project is not just about building a road; it is about creating a vital economic and social connection between the north and south of Afghanistan.

The Yakalang-Daruf Highway is an ambitious project that traverses deep valleys, mountains, and green plains, connecting the northern regions to the central province of Bamiyan. With a length of 183 kilometers and a width of 7 meters, the road is designed to be the shortest and most direct route between northern Afghanistan and other parts of the country.

The Estimated Cost to Pave This Highway Is US$ 245 Million, Financed by the Asian Development Bank and the Chinese Government

Construction began a few years ago and has already reached 15% completion. When finished, the highway has the potential to bring prosperity to thousands of poor families, facilitating trade and the transportation of agricultural and commercial products.

The highway project was initiated seven years ago by former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani. Despite promises, construction has faced challenges due to political and economic crises in Afghanistan. The Chinese company CRBC was contracted to complete the highway, but progress has been halted due to the suspension of funds by the Asian Development Bank.

The Taliban Government, Which Now Controls Afghanistan, Has Stated It Is Committed to Completing the Highway as Soon as the Frozen Funds Are Released.

They claim that 64% of the construction has already been completed. The Yakalang-Daruf Highway is a crucial part of the north-south corridor, which will connect South Asia to Central Asia, simplifying transit and trade.

The construction of Afghanistan’s largest highway by China represents a significant milestone for the country’s development. This road is not just a means of transportation; it is a hope for prosperity, connection, and economic growth for the most isolated regions of Afghanistan. The future of the Yakalang-Daruf Highway promises to unite different regions and offer new opportunities for the Afghan population.
