The Federal Government’s Investments In Solar Energy In Pará
The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) will invest, through the Mais Luz Amazônia program, which has joined the Abrace o Marajó program coordinated by the Ministry of Women, Family and Human Rights (MMFDH), in solar energy.
In the first phase of the Federal Government’s project to bring solar energy to the Island of Pará, electricity public services will serve 126,000 new consumers – about 50,000 people. The service will be provided through the expansion of the distribution network in localities connected to the National Interconnected System (SIN), through a renewable energy generation system in remote communities.

Minister Damares Alves, head of the MMFDH, says that being able to provide electricity through solar energy to these communities in Marajó, Pará, is providing dignity to the people. The minister states that they are talking about guaranteeing rights in a historically forgotten place. She further adds that with the Federal Government’s investments in solar energy in the archipelago in Pará, regional development in the area will be promoted.
Federal Government Will Bring Electricity Through Solar Energy
In the Federal Government’s project, the first phase is expected to be implemented by December 2022, in cooperation with Equatorial Energia Pará, the electricity distributor responsible for implementing the plan in the state, through the Mais Luz para a Amazônia and Rural Electrification programs.
According to Bento Albuquerque, Minister of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, who is overseeing the implementation of solar energy in Pará, through the Federal Government’s plan, residents of Marajó will be able to enjoy public electricity services with quality, reliability, and continuity, ending years of energy exclusion and starting a new journey.
Bento says that with the arrival of electricity through solar energy panels in the area, island residents will have access to other public services, significantly contributing to the reduction of social and economic vulnerability and strengthening the exercise of citizenship rights, bringing more well-being and dignity to life.
The “Abrace o Marajó” Project In The State Of Pará
Created in March of last year by the Federal Government, the “Abrace o Marajó” project aims to seek the socioeconomic development of the 16 municipalities that make up Marajó Island, in the state of Pará. These actions, such as installing solar energy panels in municipalities of the archipelago, are a strategic response to restore the human dignity of local residents.
The Marajó archipelago has approximately 550,000 inhabitants and is considered the largest fluvio-maritime region in the world, composed of about 2,500 islands and islets, with development and growth potential. Currently, the archipelago has eight of the worst cities in Brazil’s Human Development Index (HDI).
