The “Abrace o Marajó” project in the state of Pará
Created in March last year by the Federal Government, the “Embrace the Marajó” project aims to seek the socioeconomic development of the 16 municipalities that make up Ilha do Marajó, in the state of Pará. These actions, such as installing solar energy panels in municipalities in the archipelago, are a strategic response to restoring the human dignity of local residents.
The Marajó archipelago has approximately 550.000 inhabitants and is considered the largest maritime fluvial in the world, composed of about 2.500 islands and small islands, with potential for development and growth. Currently, the archipelago has eight of the worst cities in the Human Development Index (HDI) in Brazil.
