With an Innovative Strategy, Government Will Launch a Maintenance Program to Transform 10,000 Kilometers of Highways by 2027, Ensuring Quality and Road Safety.

Paraná is preparing for a revolution in its road network.

With a maintenance program aimed at transforming 10,000 kilometers of state highways, the state aims to ensure more safety and quality for drivers.

The Highway Maintenance and Conservation Program (ProMAC) is the new bet from the Department of Highways of Paraná (DER/PR), which hopes to complete the project by 2027.

As explained by Fernando Furiatti, chairman of DER/PR, ProMAC will transform the quality of pavement on all highways serviced, elevating them to new standards of excellence.

“We will ensure that all roads are in excellent or good condition”, states Furiatti, highlighting the ambition of the project.

Structure and Innovations on Highways

ProMAC provides for the hiring of services in 40 batches of highways, and to ensure efficiency, the program will utilize a new methodology for pre-qualifying companies.

According to Alexandre Castro Fernandes, operations director of DER/PR, the focus is to select companies that prove technical and financial capacity, following strict criteria of the new Bidding Law (14.133).

In addition, the pursuit of the best cost-benefit will be one of the pillars of the program, ensuring that public resources are applied advantageously.

Pavement Maintenance and Safety

Utilizing modern paving techniques, such as milling and micro-surfacing, ProMAC is not limited to the asphalt surface.

The project also encompasses safety services that address specific issues, such as cracks and fissures, which compromise trafficability.

This ongoing maintenance effort aims to resolve problems before they cause greater impacts, ensuring smooth traffic in all regions of Paraná.

ProFaixa Program and Conservation Bid

Another complementary initiative is the ProFaixa program, which focuses on maintaining areas adjacent to highways, such as cleaning signs and trimming vegetation.

This project is already in the pre-qualification phase, and it is expected that qualification proposals will be received starting October 22, 2024.

These actions are essential to ensure visibility and safety on the roads, as well as to prevent accidents.

Reissue of ProMAC: An Enhanced Program

ProMAC, which was initially launched last year, has been improved following recommendations from the Paraná State Court of Accounts (TCE-PR).

According to DER/PR, the court had pointed out inconsistencies in the budget spreadsheet of the previous project, which led to a review and correction of possible flaws.

As a result, the new bid meets all legal requirements, paving the way for the efficient execution of the proposed improvements.

Economic and Social Impact of the Program in Paraná

In addition to bringing direct benefits to drivers, ProMAC promises to boost the local economy. By modernizing the transport infrastructure, the government facilitates the flow of goods and access to various regions, which can attract investments and generate jobs.

The question that remains is: how can these road improvements impact the economy of Paraná and Brazil as a whole?

Certainly, a scenario of well-maintained roads can be a competitive advantage for the state.
