The Oceanicasub Vlll and the Oceanicasub lX ships have been rebuilt for high-tech ROV vessels. The two retrofit projects by Green Yard Kleven for the Brazilian company Oceanica were successfully completed, as indicated by the company.
Looking towards the future of naval sustainability, the Norwegian company Green Yard Kleven has two new projects completed in the domestic market. These are retrofit projects for the offshore vessel owner Oceanica, aimed at improving the energy efficiency of the Oceanicasub Vlll and the Oceanicasub lX ships and reducing their carbon emissions. Both initiatives involved a significant environmental commitment from the Norwegian company.
Green Yard Kleven Completes Two New Retrofit Projects for Offshore Vessels of Brazilian Oceanica, Which Requested Environmental Commitment in Activities

“Both reconstruction projects were largely based on reused equipment and focused on sustainability at the request of the shipowner, which is very relevant to our activity. Our experience in new builds, retrofits, and ship recycling was useful in the projects.”
For the reconstruction of the offshore vessels, Green Yard Kleven constructed new mezzanine decks for the operation of the ROV vehicles.
Barstad also highlighted that, by utilizing their contacts in the global offshore market, they managed to acquire efficient second-hand cranes to be used in the ships’ projects.
Several important sustainability elements were considered in the development of the retrofit projects for the ships. These include: review and repair of existing equipment, installation of used equipment, and reuse of interiors and furniture from recycled ships.
Another relevant point regarding the use of second-hand materials in the projects is the economic aspect. For Green Yard Kleven, there was a significant economic gain in the development of activities.
Thus, for the reconstruction of Oceanica’s ships, not only sustainability was considered but also financial benefits.
Norwegian Company Stays in the Spotlight of the Shipbuilding Market with Sustainable Projects for Brazilian Offshore Vessels
Even with the use of second-hand equipment, Green Yard Kleven was able to deliver great results in the retrofit projects of the ships.
The internal infrastructure of the offshore vessels features an expanded stand, meeting rooms, a gym, and office facilities. Therefore, it was completely designed to provide comfort and quality.
Rickard K. Gjerde, Sales Director and Senior Naval Architect of the designer Marin Teknikk AS, highlighted that the use of shipyards in Norway for the development of the projects was the best solution for the short construction timeline.
The dealings with the Norwegian company were quite straightforward, without many bureaucratic complications, as confirmed by the company.
Green Yard Kleven is known for its sustainable shipbuilding projects, with a history of successful projects in partnership with companies seeking to reduce their carbon emissions. The company has proprietary technologies for energy efficiency and building more sustainable vessels.
It is also investing in research and development projects to create new technologies and materials that can further enhance the sustainability of the shipbuilding industry.
With the new retrofit projects for the Brazilian offshore vessels, it stands out even more in the international market.
