GreenYellow Chooses Goiás For Billion-Dollar Investment In Clean Energy. The State Will Have A New Solar Plant, Expected To Be Ready In 2024.

Goiás was the major choice for the first test with large-scale solar energy generation by GreenYellow. The test is part of the transition process from Distributed Generation, with local systems on rooftops or lands, to large-scale production for a greater number of customers. The French company has not yet confirmed details regarding the installation of the solar plant in the state, but the project was confirmed by the president of GreenYellow in the country, Marcelo Xavier, in an interview with the newspaper Valor Econômico.

GreenYellow Will Focus On Self-Production In The Free Energy Market

The multinational was founded in 2007, headquartered in the French city of Saint Etienne, and has been operating in clean energy generation and distribution in Brazil since 2013. According to Xavier, given the rapid development of the solar energy market in Brazil, the company is planning to enter, in the short term, the centralized generation sector. The company already has authorizations for over 140 MWp for solar plants in this modality.

Currently, GreenYellow is designing new business models to begin prospecting potential clients. The focus will be on self-production in the free energy market, where the company’s partners will have a stake in the production of the project, along with local generation solutions.

Until this year, the company focused on serving local projects, known as Distributed Generation in the state of Goiás, such as the projects for Claro in Goianésia and Assaí Atacadista in Goiânia. The president of the multinational states that the company is progressing regarding the land and investments internally. With the new change in the law, the expectation is to have the solar plant ready by the end of 2024. Xavier emphasizes that this is the test he will conduct in Brazil in this new company strategy with the plant that will be in Goiás.

More Than Half A Billion Investments Will Be Made This Year

Marcelo states that he has R$ 500 million estimated for investment this year. The solar plant will receive part of the investments in 2023 and another part the following year. Diversifying activities is not new for GreenYellow, which already has local clean energy production in the municipalities of Padre Bernardo, Goiás, and Planaltina, in the Federal District. The French company is opening new business fronts and, in the past year, announced its entry into energy storage and electric mobility markets.

Marcelo highlights that the objective, however, remains in solar energy, but with the change of its majority shareholder, Ardian, the company may be called upon to find new markets.

GreenYellow Delivers Three Solar Plants To Claro

In January of this year, three more solar plants provided by GreenYellow, with a total installed capacity of 14.2 MWp, became part of the “Claro Energy” program, an initiative by the company that aims to use clean energy sources and environmental protection actions in all its activities and facilities in the country.

The solar generation units located in the cities of Macaíba (4.46 MWp), in Rio Grande do Norte, and Ouro Verde (7.37 MWp) and Barra do Jacaré (2.36 MWp), in the state of São Paulo, comprise a long-term contract between the operator and the French multinational. According to Xavier, by the end of 2022, GreenYellow had already delivered nine plants to Claro, totaling 48 MWp, equivalent to an annual production of 123.1 GWh.
