In an interview with Jornal Cruzeiro do Sul, Toyota Brasil informed yesterday, July 6, that it is studying the possibility of resuming the 3rd shift at its factory in Sorocaba, in the interior of the state of São Paulo, starting next year. The company has not yet confirmed the potential new jobs to be generated at the factory, but speculation estimates that 400 jobs will be created.
In a statement published by Jornal Cruzeiro do Sul, Toyota Brasil says that the company has been constantly evaluating various internal and market scenarios to ensure the sustainability of its operations in the country. And for that reason, it confirms that it is in dialogue with the union to analyze the feasibility of the third shift at the Sorocaba factory, in São Paulo, starting in 2022. The number of potential new job positions has not yet been confirmed.
The direction of Toyota had decided to adopt the third shift in Brazil in 2018, which is rare in the automaker’s factories, so the Japanese headquarters was slow to be convinced to authorize the measure. At that time, the extra shift was considered the most viable solution, without needing to invest in a new plant, to meet the expected growth of the markets in the region and the launch of another model made in Sorocaba, the Yaris hatch and sedan, launched in the second half of 2018, which joined the Etios (also in both body styles) already produced at the unit in the interior of the state of São Paulo since 2012.
