GWM Poer Arrives in Brazil to Challenge Hilux and Rampage. Check Out the Comparison of Luxury Pickups and Find Out Which Delivers More.
A New Rival for Hilux and Rampage Arrives in Brazil
GWM launched its new mid-size pickup Poer at the beginning of September 2025, promising to heat up the competition with Hilux and Rampage in the crowded luxury pickup segment.
The GWM model is already debuting with an aggressive price, a turbodiesel engine valued by Brazilian consumers, and an extensive list of features aimed at winning over those who previously only looked at traditional Japanese and American options.
The launch of the GWM Poer in the national market followed a bold strategy: offering the top-of-the-line version, Poer P30 Exclusive, for R$ 240,000 in the first ten days. After this period, the price increases to R$ 260,000. Even with the adjustment, GWM’s pickup is positioned below its direct rivals, costing less than the Ford Ranger XLS 4×4 and the Chevrolet S10 WT 4×4.

Less than a Tera TSI, up to 710 km of range and charging in 9 minutes: the new BYD Song Ultra expands the Chinese brand’s bet on increasingly faster, more technological, and competitively priced electric SUVs.
-
With a 1.0 engine producing 75 hp and costing less than R$ 70,000, Fiat’s car returns to the podium as the cheapest in the country; a temporary promotion for the 2026 Like version reduces the price of the Fiat Mobi.
-
With a mild hybrid system of 48 V, 176 hp and a price of R$ 175,990 in the Sahara version, the new Jeep Renegade changes mostly on the inside, improves slightly in fuel consumption, and remains almost the same car.
-
With a 293.5 cm³ engine and a range of up to 400 km with a 14.1-liter tank, the Honda CB 300F Twister 2026 has up to 24.7 hp, an initial price of R$ 25,150, and already exceeds R$ 29,000 in the Fipe Table.
Thus, GWM bets on cost-benefit, an already established dealership network, and a cutting-edge technology package to compete on equal footing with the sales leaders in the sector.
Robust Design and Ample Space in the GWM Poer
The Poer follows the traditional formula for midsize pickups: body over chassis, McPherson suspension in the front, and leaf springs in the rear. The dimensions are impressive: 5.41 m in length, 1.94 m in width, and 1.88 m in height, with a wheelbase of 3.23 m.
The cargo bed, another highlight, accommodates 1,248 liters, with a usable capacity of 1,010 kg. For those who need to tow, the model can pull up to 3,100 kg with brakes and 750 kg without brakes.
These numbers place it in a competitive position against the Hilux and Rampage, which dominate the mixed-use audience, both for work and leisure.
Turbo Diesel Engine: The GWM’s Ace
Unlike other Chinese brands that bet on gasoline or hybrids, GWM chose the right engine: a 2.4 turbo diesel with 184 hp and 48.9 kgfm of torque, paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission.
This setup ensures fuel consumption of 9.5 km/l in the city and 10.6 km/l on the highway, according to data from Inmetro. The range exceeds 800 km, and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h occurs in 11.2 seconds.
Additionally, the 4×4 drive with low-range and rear differential lock reinforces its off-road appeal. The Poer tackles obstacles with ease: 27º approach angle, 25º departure angle, 227 mm ground clearance, and 500 mm water fording capacity.
High-Level Technology and Comfort
The imposing visual features Full LED headlights, a wide grille, and dynamic turn signals. But it is inside that the Poer aims to win over those who already drive luxury pickups.
Starting from the entry-level version, the model offers a digital dashboard, multimedia with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay wireless, a 50W induction charger, and a premium sound system. Three 12V outlets are also available, including one in the cargo bed.
The Exclusive version further elevates the standard, with ventilated and heated leather seats, power adjustments, ambient lighting, and soft-touch finishes.
The driver assistance package (ADAS) features adaptive cruise control, collision warning, emergency autonomous braking, and lane keeping assist.
Extended Warranty and Aggressive Positioning
GWM offers a 10-year warranty, surpassing almost all rivals — even the Toyota Hilux, which guarantees an initial coverage of five years.
This detail may be decisive for consumers seeking long-term security.
In terms of price, the Chinese brand has the advantage: even the top-of-the-line version costs significantly less than traditional competitors.
This positioning makes the Poer a real threat to the Hilux and Rampage, which have dominated the luxury pickup market in Brazil for years.
The Comparison That Could Change the Game
When evaluating cost-benefit, the Poer stands out as a surprising option against the Hilux and Rampage. This is because it offers an efficient turbodiesel engine, an extensive list of features, a robust design, and a more accessible price.
On the other hand, the Brazilian market is demanding and traditional. Thus, the big question becomes whether consumers will be willing to trade established names for a new Chinese option.
Therefore, if GWM’s strategy really works, the competition between Hilux, Rampage, and Poer could redefine the landscape of luxury pickups in the country.
