Hidden Gold In Every Corner
While rummaging through the residence, the heir found true improvised safes. Shoes, tables, false walls, and even whiskey bottles concealed coins and gold bars.

Old documents showed that his ancestors had bought the gold between the 1950s and 1960s. As a result, the case was legally resolved.
A preliminary appraisal estimated the treasure’s value at 3.5 million euros — equivalent to about 22 million reais in 2021 values.
The news turned the heir into a millionaire overnight, leading him to suspend the auction of the house.
The Fortune That Became A Problem
However, the joy was short-lived. According to the newspaper La Dépêche, from 2016, French inheritance laws impose taxes of up to 45%. This meant that almost half of the found value would have to be paid to the state.
Additionally, the new owner also inherited some debts and faced the charge of back taxes, since the deceased relative had not declared their assets.
The unexpected fortune eventually became a burden. The discovery that seemed like a divine gift was, in fact, the beginning of a long bureaucratic battle.
