Since 2014, Carlos Derval Has Been Trying to Re-enter the Offshore Oil Market, which Led Him to Enter Guanabara Bay and Record a Video to Ask for Help

Nearly 5 years after the economic recession that hit the oil industry and other sectors in Brazil, the market has been recovering slowly, but it is still not enough to meet the amount of available workforce. The Southeast and Northeast were the regions of the country that suffered the most from the reduction and even the extinction of major contracts with Petrobras, as the Brazilian state company is concentrating all its efforts on exploring the pre-salt.

Unemployment was an inevitable side effect, and everyone had to “fend for themselves.” Some switched sectors, but there are others who enjoy what they do and come up with unusual ways to grab companies’ attention. It was from Carlos Derval, who is one of the followers of the Click Oil and Gas portal. In order to grab the attention of Ocyan, he went Jet Skiing near the Norbe VI rig, which is in Guanabara Bay being prepared to fulfill Petrobras contracts. He recorded an appeal video, and with his permission, it was published on our social media. You can check the recording at the end of this article.

Ocyan Responds to Him and All Professionals in the Oil Sector

Have you heard that old saying that “Marketing is the soul of business”? Surprisingly, the video published on our Facebook and LinkedIn pages garnered significant attention, and the company ended up watching the video and responded:

Hello, Click Oil and Gas. We got in touch with Carlos Derval to say that we at Ocyan value determined and creative candidates, we appreciate his interest and the initiative to grab our attention in a unique way. We hope that his surprise visit followed all safety regulations for navigation in this area. We also take this opportunity to share that all our job openings are announced on our Our People page on our site www.ocyan-sa.com and can also be accessed through www.vagas.com.br/vagas-de-ocyan. At the moment, we have 3 positions open. ”

Ocyan Responding to Carlos Derval on the Click Oil and Gas Page

As frustrating as it may seem, many companies are increasingly using resume registration sites to expedite the selection process. Ocyan uses the VAGAS.COM platform, which currently has around 1870 companies, one of the most widely used in Brazil.

The main complaint or frustration of many is that it is rare for someone to be called for a job interview through the platform. Understand, you are competing for a position practically with thousands of people, and in addition, companies use search filters, for example:

  • Delimiting candidates by region
  • Selecting candidates’ age range
  • By area of expertise
  • Years of experience
  • Others

Are Civilians Allowed to Approach Oil Platforms?

If you notice in Ocyan’s message, it emphasizes the issue of safety when approaching an offshore unit as a civilian, who is not on duty. The implicit (or explicit, depending on the point of view) message aims to inform that this is an illegal practice, which can compromise the safety of the operation and the individual.

In the case of Carlos Derval, before approaching the unit, he was approached by the Brazilian Navy, went through an inspection, and was soon released since he was obeying safety regulations. Read what the Navy says about this practice:

“Such restriction aims to protect the facilities and, consequently, the environment — but mainly, to ensure the safety of people and workers involved in Petrobras’s activities at sea.

There are various risks associated with vessels that improperly approach maritime platforms, such as collision with the platform, interference with heliport operations, fire (due to vessels approaching the platform’s burner), and damage to underwater facilities.

There is also the possibility of an explosion, as offshore activities operate with highly flammable products, which are conducted under strict procedures, including a ban on radio use during critical moments. However, such guidance is often not followed by unauthorized vessels that approach.

Additionally, the approach of boats poses a high risk to professional divers who carry out maintenance activities on platforms and pipelines.

Noncompliance with this regulation can lead to penalties from the Navy. Conducting fishing activities in this area can also result in penalties from Ibama, including the imprisonment of those responsible, as such action is considered environmental crime. Additionally, in case of damage to the platform, those responsible may be required to pay for damages.”

You Are Noticed by Companies, including on Social Media

This portal, for example, receives around 2 million monthly visits, with many people coming to learn about employment and business matters in the energy sector. Everything you do and say on social media is noticed. Be careful with poor practices, including publicly speaking negatively about companies; this is the classic career suicide.

Additionally, many companies contact us asking to disclose job openings and suggestions for articles. Try to be active in your network positively, demonstrating expertise and authority in what you are saying. Later you can read an article from G1 here, discussing the methodology used by HR companies to evaluate a profile through social media.

He Asked for a Job on a Jet Ski at Ocyan’s Platform

Carlos Derval went Jet Skiing to Ocyan’s rig (literally) accompanied by his daughter to ask for a job opportunity, as it seems that the registration on the site is not effective.

According to the warrior, he has been searching for re-entry into the market for four years on “The Rock.”

The platform that Ocyan currently uses for its main recruitments is the VAGAS.COM site, one of the most accessed and used in the country, where candidates may be competing for a position with thousands of others at the same time. Always keep your registration updated and consistent with the role you wish to perform carefully, as your resumes are selected through search filters.
