Inflation Calculation Based on IPCA Shows That The Cheapest Model Could Cost Over R$ 82 Thousand Today!

When the Hyundai HB20 was launched in 2012, it quickly became one of the most coveted cars in Brazil, charming drivers with its modern design, good performance and excellent cost-effectiveness. Since then, the model has established itself as one of the best-selling cars in the country, remaining relevant to this day.

But, with the impacts of inflation and changes in the vehicle market, what would be the updated price of the entry-level model? Let’s understand the impact of years of inflation and how it reflects on the value of the HB20 today!

The Price of HB20 in 2012: The Start of a Success Story

When the HB20 was launched in 2012, the entry-level model, the HB20 Comfort 1.0, came with a very attractive price. This version was designed for the Brazilian public, who sought a compact car but with the quality and performance of a more expensive vehicle. Check the value at the time:

Cheapest version: HB20 Comfort 1.0
Launch price: R$ 31,900

This price, at the time, represented a great cost-benefit ratio for those who wanted a modern and economical car, with a 1.0 flex engine and the confidence of Hyundai.

Inflation Adjustment: The Updated Price of HB20

To understand the impact of inflation on the price of the HB20, we will use IPCA (Broad Consumer Price Index), which measures the official inflation of Brazil, from 2012 until today. Applying the accumulated IPCA, which exceeds 150% since the launch of the model, we arrive at an estimated value for the entry-level version Comfort 1.0 today:

Value adjusted for inflation: R$ 82,000 (approximately)

This means that if we consider only inflation, the HB20 would have almost doubled in price since its launch, increasing by more than 2.5 times the initial value. However, it is important to remember that this value is an estimate based only on official inflation and does not take into account other factors in the automotive market.
