The Company Eletronuclear Will Provide Its Services for the Works of the Angra 3 Nuclear Power Plant After the Renewal of the Environmental License Required for the Project and Delivered by Ibama Over the Past Week.

The Brazilian nuclear energy market is quite optimistic about its future after the Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) granted the renewal of the environmental license for the works of the Angra 3 nuclear power plant, located in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Eletronuclear will be responsible for part of the works plan of the plant and will contribute to a promising future for the production of this resource in the country.

Renewal of the Environmental License for the Works of the Angra 3 Nuclear Power Plant Guarantees an Additional 6 Years for the Development of the Nuclear Energy Project in Brazil

Brazil is now witnessing a new chapter in the future of the nuclear energy sector, one of the most promising in the national territory, as Ibama granted the renewal of the environmental license for the continuation of the installation project of the Angra 3 nuclear power plant, which will be located at Praia de Itaorna, in the municipality of Angra dos Reis, in Rio de Janeiro.

The document is valid for 6 years and will enable the companies involved in the works, such as Eletronuclear, to accelerate the implementation of the structure.

If the forecasts of the Federal Government and Ibama are correct, this will be the last environmental license granted during the works plan for the Angra 3 nuclear power plant, as it is expected to be completed by the year 2028.

Once fully operational after the completion of the works plan in the coming years, the nuclear power plant will have a capacity of 1,405 megawatts and will be able to generate more than 12 million megawatt-hours per year.

For comparison, this number could be responsible for completely supplying the cities of Belo Horizonte and Brasília for a total period of 12 months without interruption.

In addition, Angra 3 will be another important structure for expanding the share of nuclear energy in the energy matrix of the state of Rio de Janeiro, boosting the percentage to 60% in its total operation.

Ibama is therefore seeking to contribute to the benefits of the nuclear power plant with the delivery of the new environmental license for the project.

Company Will Be Part of the Works Plan for the Implementation of the Angra 3 Nuclear Power Plant After the Renewal of Ibama’s Environmental License

During the month of February this year, the nuclear industry company Eletronuclear signed a service contract that allows the resumption of the works of the Angra 3 Nuclear Power Plant as part of the Critical Path Acceleration Plan.

The partnership was also established with the consortium Ferreira Guedes, Matricial, and ADtranz, which will also participate in the installation plan of the new nuclear energy production structure in the state of Rio de Janeiro.

Among the main measures included in the Plan is the completion of the concrete superstructure of the Angra 3 reactor building. Finally, in addition to Eletronuclear and the consortium of the other three companies, the Federal Government will seek a new partner to complete the civil works on the nuclear power plant project.
