Good news and job vacancies for São Paulo! On Wednesday (09), the resumption of the works on the Northern Section of the Rodoanel Mario Covas was announced, which has an extension of 44 kilometers along the main axis and passes through the municipalities of São Paulo, Arujá, and Guarulhos. The works will be divided into 6 lots and should be completed within two years, generating around 12 thousand jobs.

The northern section is divided into six lots and the timeline for completion varies. According to the Superintendent of the DER (Department of Highways), Paulo Cesar Tagliavini, lots 2, 4, and 5 are more advanced and are expected to be completed within 15 months, while the other lots are projected to take two years.

In an interview on Friday (11) with Jornal da CBN, João Octaviano Machado Neto, the state secretary of Logistics and Transport of São Paulo spoke about the works of the Northern Section of the Rodoanel. He emphasized that the “northern section is essential because it has a direct relationship with truck occupancy on the Tietê marginal.” According to the secretary, the government is adopting mechanisms to ensure that there will be no further delays in the works.

About the Works of the Northern Section of the Rodoanel in São Paulo

The entire Rodoanel spans 176.5 km. The works on the section will converge the road with the Raimundo Pereira Magalhães avenue (SP-332), while the Eastern Section will meet with the Presidente Dutra highway (BR-116). Four lanes of traffic in each direction will be constructed between the Western Rodoanel and the Fernão Dias highway (BR-381), and three lanes of traffic will be constructed in the section between Fernão Dias (BR-381) and Via Dutra (BR-116).

In December 2018, the deadline for completion of the works had already been extended to 2019, which faced further delays. The section has already cost R$ 7.3 billion and, according to government estimates, an additional R$ 2 billion will be spent to complete the project.
