The Company Is Producing Renewable Diesel From The Coprocessing Of Oil With Renewable Sources. The Goal Of Petrobras Is To Intensify Operations At The Repar Refinery.
Petrobras continues the production of Renewable Diesel, or Diesel R, at the President Getúlio Vargas Refinery (Repar) in Paraná. It reached the mark of 5.8 million liters of diesel with 5% renewable content during the month of April. The goal is to make these numbers even more significant over the coming months. The production of diesel is part of the BioRefining Program of the state-owned company, which plans to boost ventures focused on biofuels in the national market over the coming years.
Petrobras Reaches 5.8 Million Liters Of Renewable Diesel At The Repar Refinery And Expands Its Investments In The Product
One of Petrobras’ main bets for the national biofuels market, the Renewable Diesel produced at Repar is the result of the coprocessing of petroleum derivatives with renewable source material.
Thus, the company has been implementing about 5% renewable content in the fuel production, and in April, it reached the mark of 5.8 million liters of the product.

This was the first fuel launched by the company’s BioRefining program, which is currently focused on the energy transition of the Brazilian market for the coming years.
The main goal of Petrobras’ project is to reach the year 2027 with a production of 10.6 billion liters per year. Thus, it is projecting investments of US$ 600 million to achieve the desired results.
The impressive production numbers of Renewable Diesel at the Repar refinery demonstrate the company’s focus on intensifying the segment.
According to Petrobras data, the fuel production in April at the Paraná refinery is sufficient to supply the tanks of up to 19,300 conventional buses.
Moreover, the 5.8 million liters of Renewable Diesel could result in a reduction of emissions of up to 610 million tons of greenhouse gases.
“In addition to the environmental benefit, Diesel R can be blended with conventional diesel in different proportions, without requiring adaptations in vehicle engines, without demanding changes in the logistics chain or in its storage. It is a product with high stability and free from contaminants, which ensures durability and performance of the engines,” highlighted Petrobras.
In Its Strategic Plan 2023 – 2027, The State-Owned Company Considers Achieving Six Times Greater Renewable Diesel Production
Petrobras is optimistic about the production of Renewable Diesel following the initial results at the Repar refinery.
The company’s goal is to multiply its production capacity by up to six times in its current Strategic Plan, which will continue until the year 2027.
The strategy of the oil company is to extend fuel production to other refineries, given that currently only Repar is producing, with a processing capacity of up to 1.6 billion liters per year.
By December, this number is expected to reach 4 billion liters, according to the company’s planning.
Petrobras plans to start Renewable Diesel production at the Cubatão Refinery (RPBC) in São Paulo, with a potential of up to 700 million per year.
The Director of Commercialization and Logistics at Petrobras, Claudio Romeo Schlosser, emphasized the company’s investments in improving its fuel production.
He recalled that the company was the first in the country to develop its own coprocessing technology, and is now investing in expanding the segment.
Thus, with the results from the Repar refinery and projections for others, Petrobras is putting Renewable Diesel in the spotlight of the national market.
