Electric Version of the Jeep Renegade Was Already Considered in 2021
In mid-2021, various websites and automotive enthusiasts were already speculating about the possibility of creating a 100% electric Jeep model, with the Renegade being the most talked about for this endeavor. At the time, there was also talk that the future compact electric SUV from Jeep would be positioned just below the original version of the Renegade, as well as being a beautiful entry model with zero gas emissions propulsion.
During the celebration of Jeep’s 80th anniversary in 2021, the CEO of the manufacturer, Christian Meunier, talked specifically about the future Jeep model that would be completely emission-free across all segments by 2025. The head of the Jeep exterior design department, Mark Allen, mentioned a possible expansion of the lineup, aligned with electrification.
Allen reported at the time that the Jeep team was keeping an eye on all possible segments. Even though the initial estimate was that by 2025, or at the latest 2030, the electric Jeep would be manufactured and available in the automotive market, Jeep has accelerated its timeline and will bring the electric model by next year, in 2023.
