“We are very pleased to announce the closing of the contractual agreement with Petrobras. We are working hard to ensure that everyone can return to their activities in an organized manner. We are confident that by acting this way, we will create all the necessary conditions for the safe and productive return of our construction,” says the statement from Kerui Método.
The unit is part of the Rota 3 project to transport the natural gas production from the pre-salt Campos Basin. The beginning of the works occurred in the first half of 2018, and the estimate at the time was that it would be completed in the second half of this year, which is unlikely to happen.

In June 2020, Kerui Método Delayed Payment, and Comperj Equipment Remained Stopped at the Port of Rio
In June of last year, the modular structures of the natural gas processing unit (UPGN) of Comperj were retained for more than 50 days at the Port of Rio de Janeiro due to non-payment.
According to information given at the time to Petróleo Hoje, the Kerui Método Consortium (KM) – responsible for the works at Comperj in Itaboraí (RJ), did not pay the logistics company responsible for the transport of the equipment by barges.
The construction at Comperj was reduced, and due to the pandemic, not only Petrobras but all oil companies slowed down, affecting jobs throughout the sector’s supply chain.
At that time, the halt in the works of the Natural Gas Processing Unit (UPGN) of Comperj, by the consortium formed by Chinese Kerui and Brazilian Método Engenharia, had serious consequences in the region and led to many layoffs.
Progress of Petrobras Works at Comperj
At the time, Petrobras issued a statement saying that the Municipal Government of Itaboraí authorized an increase in the number of workers at the GasLub construction sites from 30% to 65% of the total that was active before the pandemic.
The state-owned company said that, given the situation, the schedule for the works would be reassessed, since about 2,100 workers were temporarily away from local activities, representing 35% of the contingent that was previously mobilized.
