Large Electric Minivan Debuts With Extreme Performance, High-Voltage Architecture, and Advanced Driver Assistance Package, Marking a New Phase for Leapmotor and the Chinese Market.

During the event celebrating Leapmotor’s 10th anniversary, the manufacturer introduced the D99 minivan as one of the main bets of the new D platform.

The model immediately stood out by combining 734 hp, all-wheel drive, and an estimated acceleration of 0 to 100 km/h in about 3 seconds, figures typical of supercars, combined with sensors and computing aimed at assisted driving.

In the same presentation, the brand also showcased the D19 crossover, previously revealed, making it clear that the two vehicles share the same technical base.

The company’s proposal is to use this architecture to support larger models, combining energy efficiency, advanced connectivity, and driver assistance features.

D Platform Marks Leapmotor’s Entry into the Minivan Segment

Within the new architecture, the D99 becomes the first minivan officially announced by Leapmotor.

Although the dimensions have not yet been disclosed, available references indicate a size similar to the D19, an SUV with approximately 5.2 meters in length, wheelbase around 3.1 meters, and width close to 2 meters.

With these proportions, the model clearly positions itself among large vehicles.

This technical proximity helps to understand the proposal of the D99, which bets on ample internal space combined with aerodynamic solutions typical of minivans aimed at executive use.

Visually, the bodywork emphasizes continuous surfaces and smooth transitions.

The A-pillar appears quite inclined, while a stripe extends along the glass area to the rear, creating a sense of flow in the profile.

Details in silver trim stand out in the C-pillar area and reinforce the sophisticated character of the ensemble.

Front Design Focuses on Efficiency and Shared Visual Identity

At the front, the D99 follows the same visual language as the D19.

The daytime running lights are divided into sections, while the headlights are organized at different levels.

The air intake has been concentrated in the bumper, a solution that contributes to a cleaner design.

According to Leapmotor, the model utilizes active blades that are responsible for controlling the airflow as needed and improving aerodynamic efficiency.

Above the windshield, the LiDAR sensor draws attention, installed in an elevated module.

This component, known for its mushroom-like shape, reinforces the minivan’s vocation for advanced driver assistance systems.

Electronic Architecture Supports Advanced AI Functions

A significant part of the expectations around the D99 is focused on the technological package.

The minivan is expected to adopt the LEAP 4.0 system, already associated with the D19, based on a centralized computing architecture.

In this concept, there are processors dedicated to both the digital cockpit and driving assistance functions.

Leapmotor is collaborating with Qualcomm to provide this electronic foundation.

The D19 is pointed out as the first production model to utilize two Snapdragon Elite platforms.

The combination allows for the integration of infotainment features with artificial intelligence and advanced environmental reading around the vehicle.

Mechanical Options Include Range Extender and Pure Electric Version

Even without the full technical specifications revealed, the D99 is expected to repeat the mechanical setups presented in the D19.

One of the options is the configuration with a range extender, in which the combustion engine acts solely as a generator.

In this arrangement, the focus remains on electric use during daily driving.

The architecture operates with 800 volts, while the battery has a capacity of 80.3 kWh.

The declared electric range reaches 500 km, according to the Chinese CLTC cycle.

Two electric motors ensure all-wheel drive and deliver a combined power of 544 hp.

Electric Powertrain of 734 Hp Puts the Minivan in a Different League

The fully electric version draws the most attention.

In this case, the architecture operates at 1,000 volts.

The system utilizes three electric motors, always with all-wheel drive.

The declared total power reaches 734 hp, an uncommon figure for a minivan.

According to the presentation, the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h occurs in about 3 seconds.

Power is supplied by a CATL battery with a capacity of 115 kWh.

This setup was designed to offer high charging power and performance compatible with the size of the vehicle.

Expected Debut in 2026 Expands the Brand’s Ambitions

During the event, Leapmotor indicated that the official debut of the D99 is imminent.

The model was presented as a key component of the strategy based on the D platform.

The information released so far points to a launch throughout 2026, with expectations focused on the first half.

However, no official date has been confirmed yet.

Details about the interior, finish, and complete equipment list have not yet been revealed.

Still, the combination of large size, high-voltage electric architecture, advanced sensors, and onboard computing positions the D99 as a symbol of a growing movement in the Chinese market.

With technologies previously restricted to premium sedans and SUVs reaching minivans, what is likely to weigh more for the consumer: extreme performance or the driver assistance package?
