The Bahia Tourism Secretariat (Setur-BA) opened, this Tuesday (28), a bid to hire a company specialized in controlled wrecking. The aim is to conduct environmental studies and sink two ships, the ferry boat Juracy Magalhães and the hull of the sweeper ship Anhatomirim, in the Bay of All Saints.
The head of Setur-BA, Maurício Bacelar, explained that the contracted company will be responsible for removing all pollutant parts and materials from the ships and identifying the best location for the sinking. This will ensure that there are no risks to the environment. According to Bacelar, the operation will allow for greater exploration of the tourism potential of the Bay of All Saints for diving tourism, a segment that has been growing worldwide.
In this way, the artificial reefs formed by the sinking will serve as attractions for divers and researchers. After the operation, the shipwrecks will support marine life within a year. Setur-BA reported that the bid will be rigorous in selecting a qualified company that can guarantee the environmental license for the sinking of the ships safely in the Bay of All Saints.

São Paulo surprises the world with a colossal railway network project that promises over 1,000 km of tracks, R$ 194 billion in investments, and 40 projects connecting the capital to the interior with fast and sustainable trains.
This is the second time Iran has requested permission to anchor ships in Brazil. The meeting was scheduled to take place in January but was postponed days before the meeting between Presidents Joe Biden and Lula in Washington.
The U.S. Ambassador to Brazil, Elizabeth Bagley, made a public appeal to prevent the authorization for the docking of Iranian ships, citing that these had previously been subject to UN sanctions. However, the Brazilian Government justified its decision by stating that all procedures had been followed.
The Iris Makran is a helicopter carrier measuring 228 meters in length and 42 meters in width, while the Iris Dena is a frigate measuring 95 meters in length and 11.1 meters in width. The vessels departed from the Islamic Republic of Iran in September 2022 and have now reached Brazilian waters.
