In Commitment to Sustainability, Lojas Renner Signed a Long-Term Contract, Lasting 15 Years with Enel for the Purchase of Wind Energy
Lojas Renner signed a contract with Enel for the purchase of wind energy to meet the needs of 170 brand units, as well as its new distribution center. The partnership is unique since the contract between the companies is long-term and the energy supplied will come from an already established wind farm by Enel that will be operational by the end of this year.

Contract Between Enel and Renner Will Last 15 Years
In the coming months, while the Enel plant in Tacaratu (PE) is not completed, part of Lojas Renner’s consumption will be met by wind energy from other company plants. Once the project is finalized, the supply will shift to the park in Pernambuco, according to remarks by Lojas Renner’s president, Fabio Faccio.
According to the executive, the contract will help the company close the year with 80% of its corporate consumption, that is, considering its administrative buildings, stores, and distribution centers, coming from renewable sources such as wind energy. According to Faccio, this number represents an advance, as the goal for this year was 75%.

The Lojas Renner executive further states that, in addition to the company taking another significant step toward its environmental commitment, this type of contract also serves as an incentive for investments in renewable energy in the country. Faccio claims that the company is increasing energy generation in Brazil in a more sustainable manner. Currently, the retailer already consumes energy from small hydropower plants and solar farms.
Enel Will Invest R$ 5.6 Billion
For Enel, this type of contract with Lojas Renner ensures a long-term purchase for a billion-dollar investment that is becoming a reality.
In total, five new renewable energy parks will be built, with four for wind energy and one for solar energy, all to be installed in the Northeast region. A total of R$ 5.6 billion will be invested, according to comments from Enel’s CEO in Brazil, Nicola Cotugno.
Enel Executive Comments
According to Cotugno, it is evident that more customers are taking a stance of responsibility toward the environment and showing greater interest in this type of contract. The increase in demand also comes from energy purchases by companies, but without a specific plant that will generate the renewable energy provided, as is the case with Lojas Renner.
What is different in this case is that when the contract specifies the source of the energy, the commercialization includes international renewable energy certificates that validate the origin of the energy stipulated in the agreement. Essentially, it functions as a tracking system for the environmental attributes of energy, which has become important for companies needing to build trust in carbon accounting to achieve net-zero emissions.
