Committed to sustainability, Lojas Renner closed a long-term contract, lasting 15 years, with Enel for the purchase of wind energy
Lojas Renner closed a contract with Enel for the purchase of wind energy to meet the needs of 170 units of the brand, in addition to its new distribution center. The partnership is unique, given that the contract between the companies is long-term and the energy supplied will come from an already established Enel wind farm that will come on stream at the end of this year.

Contract between Enel and Renner will last for 15 years
In the coming months, while Enel's plant in Tacaratu (PE) is not ready, part of Lojas Renner's consumption will be met by wind energy from other company plants. As soon as the project is finished, the supply will move to the park in Pernambuco, according to the words of the president of Lojas Renner, Fabio Faccio.
According to the executive, the contract will help the company close the year with 80% of its corporate consumption, that is, considering its administrative buildings, stores and distribution centers, coming from renewable sources such as wind energy. According to Faccio, this number represents progress, given that the target for this year was 75%.

The Lojas Renner executive also states that, in addition to taking another long step towards its environmental commitment, this type of contract also works as an incentive for investments in renewable energy in the country. Faccio claims that the company is increasing energy generation in Brazil and in a more sustainable way. Currently, the retailer already consumes energy from small hydroelectric plants and solar energy farms.
Enel will invest BRL 5,6 billion
For Enel, this type of contract with Lojas Renner guarantees a long-term purchase for a billionaire investment that is becoming a reality.
In total, there will be five new renewable energy parks built, four of which will be for wind energy and one for solar energy and all will be installed in the Northeast region. A total of BRL 5,6 billion will be invested, according to comments by the general director of Enel in Brazil, Nicola Cotugno.
Enel executive speaks
According to Cotugno, it is noticeable that more and more customers are taking a more responsible stance towards the environment and are showing more interest in this type of contract. The increase in demand also comes from energy purchases by companies, but without a specific plant that will generate the supplied renewable energy, as is the case of Lojas Renner.
What is different in this case is that when the contract provides for the origin of the energy, the commercialization includes international certificates of renewable energy that approve the origin of the energy foreseen in the agreement. Practically, it works like a tracking of environmental attributes of energy, something that has become important for companies that need to build confidence in carbon accounting to zero gas emissions.
