Brazil is the 8th largest energy producer in the world and has an 83% renewable matrix — but its electricity bill is among the most expensive on the planet and 35 million people live in energy poverty.
About 430 MVA will be injected into the energy system, which is enough to supply 490 thousand customers. Two 138 kV line entries will also be built at the UHE Funil to be connected to the new LT Funil, completed in Resende. The entries promise to generate better quality in the supply of energy for the customers in the region.
Future Networks
All these works that promise to generate several jobs are part of the Future Networks project, which aims to strengthen Enel Rio’s concession area with modern distribution equipment.
Enel has more than 6,400 remote-controlled devices installed in the network and will install another 400 in 2021. The technology allows for the quick and remote detection of potential faults in the network caused by external factors.
With these devices, it will be possible to remotely restore service to the affected area in a few minutes, reducing the number of customers without power.
Over the past two years, Enel has invested approximately R$ 1.5 billion in modernizing its network, connecting new customers, automating, and combating losses. In 2020, the Icaraí Substation was modernized and the Itamarati LT was expanded, not to mention the completion of works in Ilha Grande, in Angra dos Reis, which created several jobs, benefited more than 2,500 customers, and received investments of R$ 35 million.
