Bioceanic Route, Connecting Brazil and Paraguay, Advances with the Construction of a Mega Bridge over the Paraguay River. The Project Promises to Revolutionize Commerce and Transportation in the Region, Despite Challenges and Delays in the Schedule.
The construction of the mega bridge connecting Brazil to Paraguay through the ambitious Bioceanic Route promises to transform the transportation infrastructure between the two countries.
However, like any major project, the challenges are proportional to its magnitude. In a meeting held on Thursday (03) by the Division of Infrastructure Integration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the new forecast for completion of this bridge was finally announced.
The project, which connects Porto Murtinho (Brazil) and Carmelo Peralta (Paraguay) with a colossal structure over the Paraguay River, promises to revolutionize commerce and logistics between the two countries.

But this promise comes with delayed deadlines and a complex network of negotiations among the various entities involved.
Delivery Forecast for February 2026
According to Jaime Verruck, Secretary of Environment, Development, Science, Technology and Innovation (Semadesc) of Mato Grosso do Sul, the new delivery date for the bridge’s completion is set for February 2026.
Initially, the schedule indicated that construction would finish in November 2025, but delays on the Brazilian side affected the planning.
Despite this, Verruck assured that the pace of construction has been normalized, and the work is progressing as expected.
He explained that, after a temporary halt in Brazil, the hiring and necessary processes for the continuation of the project have resumed, and the bridge is now proceeding at an appropriate pace.
Progress in Paraguay and Synchronization of Works
Besides the bridge, other important segments of the Bioceanic Route, such as the paving on the Paraguayan side, are also on the radar of authorities.
The segment between the cities of Mariscal Estigarríbia and Poso Hondo in Paraguay is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, which should coincide with the completion of the bridge.
This shows that, despite the delays, the project continues to advance consistently on both sides of the border.

Involved Entities and International Coordination
The Bioceanic Route project involves various authorities and agencies from both countries.
During the meeting discussing the progress of the works, representatives from Brazilian entities such as the National Land Transportation Agency (ANTT), the National Department of Infrastructure and Transportation (Dnit), the Ministry of Transport, the Federal Revenue, and the Federal Highway Police were present.
On the Paraguayan side, the binational consortium PYBRA is responsible for the execution of the works. According to the information presented, the paving work in Paraguay is on schedule, while the access works to the bridge in Porto Murtinho, Brazil, are set to begin soon.
Restructuring of BR-267 and Investments in Brazil
Another important point discussed in the meeting was the restructuring of BR-267, which is part of the Bioceanic Route in Brazilian territory, covering the segment between Alto Caracol and Porto Murtinho.
The Federal Government has already secured an investment of R$ 200 million for the recovery of this highway. These funds are part of the PAC (Growth Acceleration Program) and will be allocated for the recapitalization of the road, crucial for facilitating the transport and flow of goods between Brazil and Paraguay.
Challenges with the Customs Area and Customs Control
As the construction of the bridge and roads progresses, another critical issue involves the construction of the customs areas, where customs control will take place.
According to Verruck, the Federal Revenue requested a revision of the project for this area due to its complexity.
However, the Secretary considers this request to be a normal procedure, given the size of the project and the operational requirements it must meet.
The customs area will be essential to control the flow of goods between the two countries, ensuring that trade occurs legally and orderly.
Start of Works in Access Areas to the Bridge
Another highlight of the works is the planning of the access areas to the Porto Murtinho bridge, which should be constructed soon.
According to Verruck, the responsible consortium has already set up the construction site and received the service order to begin construction.
These access areas are fundamental to integrating the road transport system with the bridge, facilitating the flow of vehicles and goods between Brazil and Paraguay.
Economic Impacts and Development Expectations
The Bioceanic Route project, besides being a strategic infrastructure work, promises to boost the economic development of the region.
The connection between Brazil and Paraguay via the bridge over the Paraguay River will allow for a faster and more efficient flow of products, reducing logistical costs and strengthening bilateral trade.
With substantial investments in both Brazil and Paraguay, this route opens new business possibilities for companies in both countries, as well as improving integration between their markets.

Expectations for the Future of the Bioceanic Route
Even though the project faces some challenges and delayed deadlines, the completion of the Bioceanic Route represents a growth opportunity for both countries.
As construction progresses, expectations for completion in 2026 remain optimistic, with Brazilian and Paraguayan authorities working together to ensure that this important logistics corridor is delivered on time.
Now, the question remains: will this ambitious project fulfill all its promises and transform the economic landscape of the region, or will it face new challenges before its completion?
