The Free Market – ML Announced A Billion-Dollar Investment In The Country. This Initiative Resulted In A New Massive Selection Process With More Than 6 Thousand Job Positions In Diverse Areas Of Activity And Different Types Of Professionals, Check It Out And Sign Up!

One of the largest digital commerce platforms, Mercado Livre, announced an investment of R$ 23 billion in building distribution centers in Brazil. Along with this, the company announced the opening of a new selection process with more than 6,500 job positions in various cities across Brazil. The opportunities are part of a total of 18,000 direct hires throughout Latin America, including Mexico, Argentina, Chile, and Colombia.

Mercado Livre Will Accumulate A Total Of 29.2 Thousand Employees With The Arrival Of Its Selection Process

The Senior Vice President of Mercado Livre in Brazil, Fernando Yunes, met with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and other government officials on Monday (15).

The number of hires from the selection process for job positions excludes third-party and temporary employees, according to Patricia Monteiro de Araujo, Human Resources Director of Mercado Livre in Brazil.

The planned hires will bring the total number of workers at Mercado Livre in Brazil, where the company generates more than 50% of its total revenue, to around 29.2 thousand employees.

Last month, the company confirmed its plans to invest R$ 23 billion in Brazil in 2024, a 21% increase compared to 2023, solidifying a recent expansion, partly driven by the demand for online products stemming from the pandemic.

For comparison, in 2019, Mercado Livre invested R$ 2 billion in Brazil and had fewer than 3,000 employees. Of the total planned, the main area for job positions in the selection process this year is logistics, with 5,200 employees, focusing on the Northeast, Southeast, and South regions, according to the executive. Currently, the company has ten distribution centers in the country.

More Than Half Of The Job Positions In The Selection Process Will Be Hybrid (Home Office And In-Person)

The technology sector in Brazil, based in Florianópolis, expects to generate 875 job positions, raising the workforce to 4,500 by the end of the year. Monteiro also stated that Mercado Livre, owner of the fintech Mercado Pago, plans to keep some employees working remotely.

The company maintains a policy, originating before the pandemic, where administrative roles have work flexibility. However, high leadership roles require 20% on-site presence in any company office within the quarter.

Mercado Livre did not confirm how many employees may operate under this model, and Monteiro mentions that this flexibility primarily pertains to careers in the selection process not related to the physical delivery of products. According to the executive, the company is being differentiated when compared to other technology companies, particularly those in North America. There is more rigor, even traditionally, in technology companies that were once pioneers in all forms of work.
