MEC and CAPES Open More Than One Thousand Vacancies in Five Professional Master’s Degrees Aimed at Basic Education Teachers, with Applications Between October and November and National Selection Processes in Areas Such as Language, History, and Computing.

The Ministry of Education, in partnership with CAPES, has opened applications for five professional master’s programs aimed at basic education teachers.

The selections cover Language, Sociology, Physical Education, Teaching of Computing, and Teaching of History, with national offerings and schedules extending through October and November.

In total, there are over one thousand vacancies at public institutions across all regions.

Who Can Participate and What Are the General Rules

The network programs (PROF) focus on teachers currently working in public schools.

In general, they require a compatible degree, proof of classroom experience, and availability to fulfill in-person and remote activities according to each pedagogical project.

The selection is national and standardizes stages and criteria in a unified notice, but enrollment and academic monitoring occur at the associated institutions.

In all cases, it is essential to consult the exam notice, which details the schedule, required documents, evaluation criteria, affirmative action modalities, and any fees and exemptions.

Changes and corrections are often published throughout the application period.

Language (PROFLETRAS): 911 Vacancies and National Selection

The Professional Master’s Degree in Language offers 911 vacancies distributed across the country.

The program qualifies teachers of Portuguese Language to enhance reading, writing, and oral practices in basic education, with an emphasis on pedagogical interventions applicable to the classroom.

The national notice determines the target audience, stages, and distribution of vacancies by associated units.

Applications, conducted entirely online, are open until October 15.

The evaluation combines a test and document analysis, according to the rules described in the notice.

Sociology (PROFSOCIO): Letter of Intent and Online Defense

Aimed at teachers who teach Sociology in Public High Schools, PROFSOCIO has structured the selection in two virtual phases: submission of a letter of intent at the time of application and online defense of this document before a committee.

The model seeks to verify thematic adherence, clarity of objectives, and connection to real school challenges.

The application deadline ends on October 18.

The notice lists the scoring criteria, mandatory documentation, and deadlines for administrative appeals.

Physical Education (ProEF): 380 Vacancies and School-Oriented Training

With national coordination from Unesp, ProEF has opened 380 vacancies.

The goal is to develop the professional intervention of the Physical Education teacher in basic education, with lines covering bodily practices and sports in schools, as well as health and quality of life in the school environment.

The notice describes the target audience, requirements for proving teaching experience, and the official exam schedule.

Applications occur from October 9 to November 3, exclusively online, following the guidelines in the document.

Teaching of Computing (PROFCOMP): Focus on Computational Thinking

The master’s program in Teaching of Computing enables teachers to integrate computational thinking into the basic education curriculum.

The research lines include methodologies and technologies for teaching Computing and didactic investigation in school contexts.

The current selection, governed by Notice No. 1/2025, provides for an online theoretical-objective test on a national date and administrative stages for approval.

Applications are open from October 1 to 27.

The target audience includes teachers in public schools with a degree and experience in subjects related to Computing, as per the notice.

Teaching of History (ProfHistória): National Exam in December

Aimed at qualifying History teachers working in basic education, ProfHistória conducts a national selection for enrollment in the first semester of the following year.

The notice reports 677 master’s vacancies distributed among the associated universities.

The application period runs from August 26 to November 13, and the unified exam is scheduled for December 7.

The document outlines stages, reserved vacancies in affirmative action modalities, and the deadlines for result publication and enrollment.

Affirmative Actions, Proof of Exercise, and Documents

The five network notices require proof of teaching experience in the public network during the selection process and throughout the course.

They also anticipate affirmative actions, with specific documentation for reserved vacancies.

In general, the candidate must present a degree diploma, proof of employment and classroom management, ID, and CPF, as well as statements and reports when special accommodations are requested during the evaluation stages.

Each notice sets distinct deadlines for fee waiver requests, conditions for self-identification, and criteria for persons with disabilities.

Timeline, Results, and Best Practices for Registration

The selections organize timelines with milestones such as registration approval, disclosure of locations (in case of in-person tests or supervised remote applications), publication of answer keys and results, as well as specific periods for appeals.

Careful monitoring of the candidate panel prevents missed deadlines.

Saving the registration receipt, checking emails, and frequently consulting the exam page help prevent disqualifications due to incomplete documentation or late submission.

What to Consider Before Choosing the Program

It is worth considering the affinity between the area of expertise and research lines, class schedule and activities, workload, availability for travel, and the academic support policy of the associated institution.

Those who teach Portuguese Language are likely to find in the PROFLETRAS a curricular design aligned with reading and writing demands.

In the PROFSOCIO, activities emphasize the practice of school Sociology.

In the ProEF, the focus is on pedagogical intervention in Physical Education.

In the PROFCOMP, the centrality is on computational thinking and its teaching.

And in the ProfHistória, the training focuses on didactics of History and the production of historical knowledge in schools.

How to Register Step by Step

To complete their application, the teacher must access the system indicated in the notice of the chosen program by the deadline, fill out the electronic form with personal and professional information, attach the required documentation proving their work in the public network and compatible training, and, when applicable, pay the registration fee or request a waiver within the specific deadline.

Subsequently, it is necessary to monitor approvals, any calls for online or in-person tests, publication of results, and appeal deadlines on the exam panel.
