Despite being a new company, it will make large investments. The business plan of Mercury Renew has a forecast of R$ 5.5 billion in resources over the next few years, and also expects that by 2025, 2 GW of renewable sources will be implemented, focusing on solar energy plants.

The company’s main project will be a solar energy plant in Várzea de Palma, which is expected to require an investment of around R$ 1.7 billion. According to Mercury Renew’s CEO, Pedro Fiuza, the solar energy plant in Minas Gerais is expected to start generating in 2023, and its construction will create around 700 new job vacancies.

Fiuza states: “This is the good part of generation from solar and wind energy sources. We are able to provide income and various job opportunities for very poor regions in the country, giving chances to the local workforce, which is trained and qualified for the activity.”

New Investments for the Creation of Solar Energy Plants in Minas Gerais and São Paulo

According to Fiuza, the project in Minas Gerais will be called Hélio Valgas, with 650 MWp. The construction, which should generate around 700 jobs, is set to start in the second half of this year, specifically in the fourth quarter. Besides this project, there are others on Mercury’s list, such as in São Paulo, which will also have solar energy plants with construction expected to begin in the fourth quarter.

The works will be completed by the end of next year. The plant, which also promises to generate various job vacancies, will be called Castilho and will have a capacity of 270 MWp. In Minas Gerais, besides Hélio Valgas, the company has a second project called São João de Paracatu, with approximately 275 MWp. This project is set to begin in 2022 and is expected to be operational in 2023.

The Company’s Focus and Its Negotiations

In addition to solar energy, the company is also announcing that there will be future investments in the wind energy market. According to Fiuza, the company promises to focus on these two sources. Mercury has a large contract with Liasa, one of the major silicon producers in the state of Minas Gerais, to sell the energy produced at Hélio Valgas. In addition, Mercury has two other contracts, one with Sol Energia and another with Tradener.
