The CEO of the Mining Company SMD Recursos Naturais Called Amazonino Claims He Has Enormous Interest in Mining Projects in the Areas of the Waimiri Atroari and Yanomami Tribes in the Amazon Regions

Previously a candidate for mayor, Amazonino claims that his interest is peaceful, but the agencies responsible for approving mining in the region must analyze the request from the owner of the mining company SMD Recursos Naturais in the Amazon with more caution in the coming months.

“Former governor of Amazonas, Mendes is the majority partner of the mining company SMD Recursos Naturais Ltda, a company responsible for six requests for mining research for tin ore in areas of the Waimiri Atroari peoples, near the Amazon, and Yanomami in Roraima,” says a statement from the entity.

Mining Company Wants to Extract Bauxite in Areas of the Munduruku, Mura, and Arapiun Peoples in the Amazon

“In the middle of the Amazon, nestled in the dark green blanket of the forest covering the municipality of Oriximiná, in Pará, there exists an urban agglomeration unlike any other in mining. In the village of Porto Trombetas, unlike what happens in the surrounding villages, no one is worried about when the nuts will fall from the tree, the cassava farm, or the fish smoking for lunch. There, the primary concern of any mining company is to extract bauxite from beneath the forest as quickly, efficiently, and profitably as possible. To fell trees and dig trenches until reaching the red earth that hides aluminum. Then operate excavators, supervise conveyor belts, and load bulk carriers that continuously sail away, taking the ore to be transformed into computers, cell phones, pots, cans, frames, and so many other products without which almost no one can live in the mining industry.” Affirms InfoAmazonia – a network of organizations and journalists from nine Amazonian countries.

The competition for the fertile lands of the Amazon puts quilombolas, the mining company, and environmentalists in permanent conflict over mining.
