After Disaster, Samarco Mining Company Resumes Its Activities in Mariana – MG
The accident at Samarco Mining Company in MG occurred after the rupture of the dam (Fundão), which is a subsidiary of Vale and BHP Billiton. Now, five years after the rupture of the Fundão dam in Mariana, in central MG, the Samarco mining company resumed its operations in the city last Friday (11). According to Samarco mining company, the return will proceed gradually, starting from a concentrator at the Germano complex in the municipality of Minas Gerais – MG, and a pelletizing plant in Ubu, Espírito Santo, which is currently operating at 26% of its capacity. The production is expected to start at around 8 million tons of iron ore per year.

The resumption of activities by the mining company was announced by the mayor of Mariana, Duarte Júnior, on his social media.
“I received yesterday (Thursday), in my office, for a working meeting, the president of the mining company, Rodrigo Alvarenga Vilela, and I inform you all that the company resumes its activities today (Friday). There will be no ceremony or event to mark the moment, respecting the regulations and also all the families and victims of the dam rupture,” wrote the mayor of Mariana-MG.
