Vale’s New Project for the Construction of Its New Steelmaking Plant, Tecnored, Will Be Essential for the Development of the Region, as the Works for the Iron Production Plant Are Expected to Provide Around 2,000 Jobs for the Residents of Pará

This month of April, the mining company Vale began construction of Tecnored, its new iron production plant for steelmaking. Last Thursday (04/21), its representatives commented on the 2,000 jobs that will be generated for the residents of Pará throughout the construction project of the plant, which will be essential for the state’s economic growth.

Tecnored Will Be Vale’s New Iron Production Plant Focused on Steelmaking and Is Being Built in the Marabá Region, in the State of Pará

Vale is not only increasingly focused on the national steelmaking segment, but is also developing a new factory for iron production. Thus, the steel mill will be a subsidiary of Vale focused on the development of a low-carbon pig iron process, made through the use of energy sources such as biomass, syngas, and hydrogen for the national market.

The project is named Tecnored, and construction works have already begun in the Marabá region, in the state of Pará, so that the process of starting iron production can be completed as soon as possible. Additionally, the new unit in Marabá will have an initial production capacity of 250,000 tons of green pig iron per year and is expected to reach up to 500,000 tons every twelve months in the future, which could make the company even more competitive in the steelmaking segment.

The company also announced some projections for the project and is anticipating that the factory will complete construction in 2025 for an immediate start of iron production. Furthermore, investments for the project are budgeted at over R$ 1.6 billion, and the company aims to acquire state-of-the-art equipment to invest in the production of this raw material, which is increasingly in demand in both the domestic and international steelmaking market, in addition to being a new bet for sustainability in the sector.

Construction of the Iron Production Factory Tecnored Will Be Essential for the Sustainability of the Mining Company and Will Generate Over 2,000 Jobs for the State

The main objective of the Pará state administration in supporting the construction of Vale’s new iron production plant is the socioeconomic development of the state. This is because the company expects around 2,000 jobs to be generated at the peak of construction, and, in the initial production phase of the raw material, about 400 direct and indirect jobs are expected to be created for the local population.

Moreover, in addition to generating jobs for the population of the state of Pará, Vale’s president, Eduardo Bartolomeu, commented on the importance of the factory for sustainability and stated that “The implementation of Tecnored helps make the supply chain increasingly sustainable. The Tecnored project is of great importance to Vale and the region, bringing competitiveness gains, environmental sustainability, and development to the region. Additionally, gradually, we will replace coal with carbonized biomass until we achieve the goal of 100% biomass.”

Thus, the state will not only benefit from the jobs provided in the construction project, but it will also host a factory entirely focused on environmental commitment and ESG practices in iron production.
