After a Total Investment of R$ 3.3 Million in the Energy Network Replacement Project, the Port of Imbituba Completes the Works and Now Has a Much More Suitable Infrastructure for Loading and Storage Operations on Site
Throughout the past week, the final stages of the infrastructure works at the Port of Imbituba for the energy network replacement were completed and this past Wednesday (04/20), the administration of the site commented on the investment of R$ 3.3 million that was made in the project, stating that this was another step taken for internal improvements focused on enhancing the quality of the site.
A Total of R$ 3.3 Million in Investment Was Applied to the Infrastructure Works for the Energy Network Replacement at the Port of Imbituba Over the Past Few Months
Located in the southern region of the state of Santa Catarina, the Port of Imbituba is highly important for the movement and storage of cargo in the state and is now investing in infrastructure improvements for these operations. Thus, the administration of the site made an investment of R$ 3.3 million for the replacement of the entire energy network of the complex, after more than 20 years without maintenance performed on the port system.
Now, with the completion of the local infrastructure works, the new network includes approximately 7 km of high-voltage lines, with 25 km of underground cabling, in addition to 170 fiberglass poles, which are lighter and more durable. Furthermore, the entire energy system is designed to withstand high winds, saltwater exposure, and other common issues related to cargo movement operations on site, ensuring more efficiency in these activities.

Four 24-meter suction sails that generate up to 7 times more lift than traditional sails have been installed on a Maersk oil tanker. The autonomous system can reduce consumption by up to 20% and is already recording savings of up to 5.4 tons of fuel per day at sea, with annual cuts potentially reaching thousands of tons on a single vessel.

After the announcement of US$ 2 billion for six PSVs, Petrobras may order four RSV vessels in Navegantes in April, with the BID published and Navship mentioned, but awaiting the release of funds.
The new energy network at the Port of Imbituba also includes 225 LED light fixtures, which are more economical, durable, have automatic lighting, and light intensity control, ensuring savings on electricity costs and a more conscious consumption of resources within the port. The energy network replacement occurred due to signs of wear from use, corrosion from proximity to the maritime area, in addition to technological obsolescence, which is no longer seen on site since state-of-the-art equipment was used in the network.
Energy Network Replacement at the Port Is Just the First Step in the Infrastructure Works Plan to Be Carried Out Throughout 2022
The Port of Imbituba is in a wave of investment in infrastructure works and improvements for cargo movement operations and, since 2018, has been focusing on the initiative. Thus, the CEO of SCPAR Porto de Imbituba, Fábio Riera, commented on the completed infrastructure works already this month and stated, “This investment was vital to provide users of the Port of Imbituba with reliability and continuity in power supply, with an adequate structure and updated technology to the best standards of sustainability and energy efficiency.”
Now, in addition to the reformulation of the entire energy system with the local works, the port administration is looking towards renewable sources for a healthier supply and, during the next week, will launch a bidding process for a solar energy system, to be installed in about 830 m² of rooftop areas of the Port facilities, a structure that will contribute 15% of the current electricity consumption.
Thus, the Port of Imbituba continues its efforts for better port infrastructure and moves forward to become even more efficient in its operations, focusing on expansion within the national port sector.
