Toyota Launches Aygo X Hybrid in Europe with Yaris Engine, Fuel Consumption of Up to 27 km/l, GR Sport Version, and Retractable Roof, Positioning the Subcompact as a Rival to Kwid and Mobi in the Entry Segment.
The Toyota unveiled the updated Aygo X in Europe, now with hybrid powertrain and a brand new GR Sport version.
The subcompact crossover replaces the old 1.0 aspirated engine with a full hybrid 1.5 system derived from the Yaris, featuring automatic eCVT transmission in all configurations.
According to a report published by Mobi Auto, the model achieves 76.4 mpg in the WLTP cycle, equivalent to about 27.1 km/l on average combined.

With a mild hybrid system of 48 V, 176 hp and a price of R$ 175,990 in the Sahara version, the new Jeep Renegade changes mostly on the inside, improves slightly in fuel consumption, and remains almost the same car.

With a 293.5 cm³ engine and a range of up to 400 km with a 14.1-liter tank, the Honda CB 300F Twister 2026 has up to 24.7 hp, an initial price of R$ 25,150, and already exceeds R$ 29,000 in the Fipe Table.

With a 1.3 engine, nearly 700 km of range, and Turbo 200, the Fiat model surpasses Polo, Tera HB20, and Onix, becoming the best-selling car in March; see the numbers for the Fiat Strada and others.

The Honda Fit has been discontinued for years, but the 2018 model is worth more today in the Fipe table than it cost brand new, proving that this used car, valued with a 1.5 i-VTEC engine and Magic Seat, only increases in price.
The package includes 17 or 18-inch wheels and an updated look.
Sales will begin in Europe between late 2025 and early 2026.
Hybrid in the Smallest Toyota in Europe
With the mid-life update, the Aygo X becomes the first full hybrid in the A segment in the European market.
The architecture uses the 1.5 three-cylinder Atkinson cycle engine (M15A-FXE), the electric motors, and the electronics from the Yaris, delivering 114 bhp/116 DIN hp of combined power.
The transmission is always an automatic eCVT, even in the sporty configuration.
According to findings by Mobi Auto, Toyota also redesigned the front end and reinforced the suspension setup, maintaining the urban tuning and light steering that characterize the model.
Fuel Economy and Emissions of Aygo X

In addition to a more vigorous response, the focus is on efficiency.
The brand reports 85 g/km of CO₂ and 76.4 mpg (combined WLTP), approximately 27.1 km/l.
In urban traffic, the hybrid system allows for longer stretches in electric mode without the need for external charging.
Regarding performance, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is below 10 s, according to European launch data.
Platform and Space Solutions
Built on the TNGA GA-B base, the same family as the Yaris, the Aygo X received modifications to accommodate the battery and components of the hybrid system.
Toyota extended the front overhang by 76 mm and adopted a novel solution for the brand: two cell stacks positioned side by side under the rear seat, preserving interior space.
The paper Mobi Auto also pointed out that, even with the new arrangement, the trunk capacity remains at 231 liters, a competitive volume for the size of the car.
Measurements and Dimensions of the Subcompact
The proportions remain compact, with 3,776 mm in length and 2,430 mm in wheelbase, numbers suitable for maneuvering and urban use.
The minimum turning radius remains at 4.7 m, favoring cornering and tight parking.
The design emphasizes the stance of a “mini-SUV”, with prominent wheel arches, plastic cladding, and new 17” or 18” alloys depending on the version.
Equipment and Connectivity

Inside the cabin, the hatch now features a 7” digital instrument panel and Toyota Smart Connect multimedia system.
The entry-level versions offer a 9” screen, while the higher trims go up to 10.5”, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Among the options, there is a JBL sound system and wireless charger for smartphones.
The 2025 lineup also expands the Toyota Safety Sense package, with updates that include adaptive cruise control across the speed range and emergency steering assistance.
Retractable Roof on Aygo X
Although the original text mentions “sunroof,” the European offer for the Aygo X includes, according to Toyota itself, a retractable canvas roof in specific versions.
This configuration was already known in the model and was maintained in the hybrid facelift.
It gives the subcompact a touch of urban convertible, but it is not a glass sunroof.
GR Sport: Sportiness in the Subcompact
The new GR Sport version debuts in the Aygo X with recalibrated springs and dampers, more responsive steering, and exclusive finishing details.
On the outside, there is a “G” pattern grille, specific wheels, and the Bi-tone+ paint scheme with a black hood.
On the inside, black and gray accents and GR logos reinforce the proposal.
In an interview with Mobi Auto, executives from Toyota explained that the powertrain remains the same as the other versions, preserving the efficiency and emissions reported.
Practical Items and Trunk

Despite the technological enhancements, the Aygo X remains designed for everyday use.
The reconfiguration of the batteries under the rear seat and the relocation of the auxiliary battery under the trunk floor helped maintain a declared 231 liters of capacity.
For comparison in Brazil, the Renault Kwid advertises 290 liters, while the Fiat Mobi indicates 200 liters.
Still, Toyota claims that the space in the rear seat was minimally affected, with slight changes to the backrest angle.
Launch of the Toyota Aygo X
The Aygo X hybrid and the Aygo X GR Sport have a confirmed launch for Europe with deliveries expected by late 2025/early 2026.
No official announcement for Brazil has been made yet.
Toyota positions the model as the brand’s electrified entry point in the European continent, below the Yaris and Yaris Cross.
With the combination of hybridization, compact size, and mini-SUV styling, the Aygo X aims for urban use with low consumption and an updated safety package; in your opinion, would a hybrid subcompact make sense for Brazilian traffic and consumer wallets?
