If the challenges presented in the 2020 scenario allowed important deliveries for the infrastructure sector, for 2021 the Federal Government's expectation is even greater. There will still be the privatization of Companhia Docas do Espírito Santo (Codesa). A total of more than R$ 137,5 billion in investments and almost R$ 3 billion in grants for the government.

“2021 will be a very rich year for the infrastructure sector, a year of many accomplishments. We will have more than 50 assets being transferred. We will have a series of auctions. The idea is to hire R$ 137 billion and, investments that, when materialized, will generate more than two million jobs”, said the Minister of Infrastructure, Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas.

Scheduled for March of next year, the sixth round of airport concessions will take place, involving 22 airports divided into three blocks. There are nine terminals in the South region, seven in the North region and another six in the Midwest and Northeast of the country.

With an auction scheduled for the 1st quarter of 2021, MInfra is preparing the lease of two more important areas in the Port of Santos: the STS08 and STS08A terminals. The areas should add up to investments of around R$ 1,2 billion – the biggest port bid in the last 15 years. The winner will manage the terminals for a period of 25 years. The privatization of Companhia Docas do Espirito Santo (Codesa) is also planned, the first to be carried out in Brazil.

In 2021, the other major asset for MInfra that is going to be auctioned is the new concession for Via Dutra (BR-116), which connects São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. The project also includes the inclusion of the Rio-Santos highway (BR 101). The new operator will manage the highway for a period of 30 years, with expected investments of more than R$ 14,5 billion, in what will be the biggest road auction in the history of Brazil.

In terms of railways, the highlight goes to the concession of the first section of the Oeste-Leste Railway (FIOL), which will connect the ore from Caetité, in Bahia, to the Port of Ilhéus, and to Ferrogrão, a challenging and innovative project that provides for the construction of a railroad linking production in northern Mato Grosso to the ports of Miritituba, in Pará, rebalancing the Brazilian transport matrix and expanding export capacity through Arco Norte (ports located above the 16° S parallel).
