The Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU) team was called and confirmed the death at the scene.
Given the circumstances, the investigation by the Civil Police of MG was immediately initiated to investigate the causes of death and possible responsibilities.
Patient Dies During Root Canal Treatment After Showing Signs of Emergency
According to initial information, Mauro had sought the clinic to continue a dental treatment that started months earlier.
The procedure in question was a root canal treatment, a common step following dental extractions, but in this case, it ended tragically.
During the procedure, the patient reported that he was drooling, at which point the dentist performed suction in his mouth.
Immediately after, he began to feel unwell. Witnesses state that the man turned a purplish color, a clinical sign that may indicate a lack of oxygenation, requiring immediate response.
Family Reports Possible Failure in Dental Care
The victim’s sister, Cláudia Janaina Rodrigues Soares, 51, was with Mauro at the time of the procedure and described what she considers a failure in dental care.
According to her, the professionals present did not initiate appropriate resuscitation maneuvers while waiting for medical assistance.
“He started to turn completely purple, the dentists approached, another professional entered the room, but they did not perform the procedure that the situation required.”
Then, they called SAMU, and due to the delay, I called my husband, my husband came, we took him out of the dentist’s chair, placed him on the floor, and began CPR.”
Furthermore, according to the account, a Municipal Guard vehicle that was passing by provided assistance in the resuscitation attempts until medical assistance arrived.
Emergency Response and Confirmation of Death
The SAMU and the Military Police were called after the patient’s clinical condition worsened. When the emergency team arrived at the clinic, Mauro was already without vital signs.
The medical team confirmed the death at the scene and ended any possibility of reversing the situation.
The family emphasizes that the response time and the lack of immediate advanced support measures may have contributed to the fatal outcome, which intensifies the suspicion of failure in dental care during the procedure.
Clinic Isolates and Forensics Is Activated
After confirming the death, the authorities isolated the clinic to conduct a technical examination.
The aim was to preserve the environment and collect elements that help clarify what occurred during the dental procedure in Contagem.
According to Cláudia, the dentist owner of the establishment resisted collecting the anesthetic medications used during the care, a point that the investigation will also analyze.
“The dentists did not provide the necessary assistance, they waited for SAMU to arrive,” Cláudia reported.
The authorities sent Mauro’s body to the Legal Medical Institute (IML), where examinations will help identify the cause of death.
Civil Police of MG Investigation Examines Responsibilities
In a statement sent to CNN Brasil, the Civil Police of Minas Gerais informed that the case is under investigation and that the investigation by the Civil Police of MG seeks to clarify whether there was negligence, inexperience, or recklessness during the dental care.
According to the official statement, the Civil Police will release further information at the appropriate time.
The investigation includes analysis of medical records, medications used, emergency protocols, and witness testimonies.
Case Rekindles Debate on Safety in Dental Procedures
The death in a dental clinic during a routine procedure rekindles the debate on emergency protocols in dental offices and private clinics.
Experts emphasize that invasive procedures require technical training, appropriate equipment, and immediate response in the face of complications.
Meanwhile, Mauro’s family awaits answers and demands justice.
The case remains under investigation and may result in civil, administrative, and criminal liabilities, depending on the forensic conclusions.
